Many companies still purchase “safety files” or complete safety management systems from document vendors without consulting a qualified safety specialist.
The result is often a set of generic documents that look compliant on paper, but do not actually address the organisation’s real operational risks.
When a safety management system is not built around a company’s specific risk exposure profile, critical hazards can remain unmanaged. In practice, this means risk controls are either insufficient or misaligned with the work being performed.
And when something goes wrong, those gaps quickly become legal liabilities.
Effective safety management is not about owning documents.
It is about understanding risk and building systems that control it.
