Yesterday’s BNI Platinum meeting was full of energy, passion and true Givers Gain spirit. ⚒️

A big congratulations to our 60-second winner, Marlie van der Merwe from IsiKhumba Manufacturing.

Marlie used her 60 seconds to talk about something simple, but powerful — socks. Not just any socks, but how the right branded product can create visibility, start conversations and add value to a business.

⚖️ Know Your Rights: Self-Defence in South Africa

Schalk Welgemoed, Platinum’s own criminal lawyer, shares an important reminder:

👉 Self-defence is your right — but it has limits.

In simple terms, you are legally allowed to defend yourself (or someone else) if:
• The attack is unlawful
• It is immediate or about to happen
• Your response is necessary to stop the threat
• And your actions are reasonable in the situation

💡 The law does not expect you to:
• Turn your back and risk your life
• Flee your own home when under attack
• Hesitate when your safety is at stake

Your home is your castle, and your life is worth protecting.

But there’s a line ⚠️
Once the threat is over, your response must stop — otherwise you could face legal consequences.

👨‍⚖️ As Schalk puts it:
“I’d rather defend you in court than attend your funeral.”
