Friday: she RESIGNED.

Told the CEO her decision was non-negotiable. They counter-offered twice but she was insulted and flatly rejected both offers. When she described her reasons, they were obvious and common. Here are 5 conclusions:

-Counter-offer? People rarely leave just for money. Money motivates only to a point.

-You cannot “try” to appreciate someone on their way out. It is a little too late.

-Emotional resignation happens long before someone resigns. The formal resignation is the final act of a loss of hope.

- Every job plateaus. People need to know their value and their future. Investment in career progression is one of the biggest factors to retention.

- Trust goes both ways in any relationship. Trust is earned over time. It can be lost in less then a moment.

Talented employees should not be taken for granted as they are among any organizations most valuable assets.

Investing in those assets pays long term dividends.

Unfortunately, most companies learn this the hard way.
