Vehicle theft begins with planning, coordination and organised criminal networks working behind the scenes.

Behind every stolen vehicle is a network of people playing different roles… those who steal, those who move vehicles, those who alter identities, those who strip them for parts, and those waiting to profit at the end of the chain.

Recovering one vehicle doesn't stop that network.

That's why Wezindlela works closely with public and private partners, sharing intelligence that reaches well beyond a single recovery.

From the air to the ground, every role-player had a part to play.

On 24 August 2026, Wezindlela Group joined Soshanguve SAPS K9 Unit, Proshield Security and Drone Unit, GAC Risk Solutions, Bidvest Airwing, and CiG in executing a search warrant at a plot in Pretoria North.

During the operation, members discovered suspected illegal gold-refining activity and arrested two suspects. One suspect attempted to flee the scene and was apprehended by a SAPS patrol dog after failing to comply with instructions to stop.

Drone support provided an aerial view of the plot, while teams on the ground secured the scene for further investigation by the relevant SAPS units. The value of the exhibits recovered was still to be determined by Organised Crime at the time of the operational report.

A strong result made possible through coordinated efforts across every team involved.

Not all cover is equal.

Doors, wheels, engine block…some stop rounds, others don’t. Our teams learn it on the range, not in the moment of crisis.

A recovered vehicle can answer more questions than most people realise. It can point to a route that's been used before, create connections to previous cases, and reveal the movements of organised syndicates operating across different areas.

Recovery provides the starting point. Investigation turns information into intelligence.

That's how Wezindlela approaches every case.

The numbers reflect a steady increase in kidnappings, and behind them are organised operations that rely on planning and observation. Kidnappings for ransom and trafficking are often targeted, not random. Individuals and businesses with visible routines or predictable movements are easier to assess.

Here’s what to keep in mind for your safety:
- Vary routes and travel times where possible.
- Be cautious when sharing location details publicly.
- Stay alert to unusual behaviour or repeated sightings.
- Report anything suspicious early.

Preparedness reduces exposure, especially in environments where risk is increasing. Safeguard Asset Protection Service and Wezindlela Group operate within that space to support both proactive protection and coordinated response and recovery when situations escalate.

A truck hijacking investigation that began with credible intelligence led to a coordinated operation spanning several locations, and the recovery of a significant quantity of suspected stolen stock.

On 13 and 14 August, Wezindlela Group worked alongside SAPS VCIU, SAPS Crime Intelligence, SAPS K9 Pretoria and SAPS Motlutlong in an intelligence-driven operation linked to a truck hijacking that took place on 29 July.

Following targeted surveillance and investigative follow-ups, the joint team apprehended suspects and followed information that led them to locations in Motlutlong and Schietfontein. Searches at these locations resulted in the recovery of hundreds of containers of suspected stolen paint stock, along with wooden pallets. Illegal 12-gauge ammunition was also discovered during the operation.

In total, five suspects were arrested, with charges relating to truck hijacking, possession of suspected stolen property and possession of illegal ammunition.

Operations like these demonstrate what can be achieved when intelligence, surveillance, investigation and coordinated action come together.

Wezindlela is proud to have worked alongside all units involved in another joint effort aimed at disrupting organised criminal networks targeting commercial cargo.

Criminal syndicates rely on one thing above all else. They assume each stolen vehicle will be treated as an isolated incident.

One vehicle recovered in Pretoria.
Another stolen weeks later in Midrand.
A suspicious vehicle seen near a hijacking in Centurion.

Viewed separately, they don't appear connected. Viewed together, patterns begin to emerge. By combining investigative experience with AI-powered analysis, Wezindlela can connect information across thousands of incidents, helping identify patterns that would otherwise remain hidden.

Information received on Friday, 7 August, led our team to a Nissan Navara reportedly being stripped in the Hebron area.

Upon arrival, suspects were found actively stripping the stolen vehicle. They fled on foot after noticing our team, leading to a pursuit through the surrounding terrain and across a river. One suspect ultimately managed to disappear into the dense bush area.

The Navara, however, was successfully recovered.

Our team then contacted the owner, who had no idea that his brand-new bakkie had even been stolen. With no tracking device installed, the recovery came as both a shock and a huge relief. The vehicle was subsequently impounded for further processing and investigation.

Quick action from our team turned a stolen vehicle into yet another successful recovery.

Something doesn't add up.

Money has gone missing, company property has disappeared, and witness accounts don't align.

When the facts are unclear, our investigators work to establish exactly what happened through professional criminal investigations backed by evidence. Because important decisions should be based on facts, not assumptions.
