(SABS) supports government's Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP), which promotes the localisation of production and addresses the current economic trends. The SABS provides the platform for quality services and products which is the key differentiator in an increasingly competitive environment. The SABS strategic objective contributes to the efficient functioning of the economy by:
1. Developing standards to advance the socio-economic well-being of South Africa in the global economy.
2. Delivering relevant conformity assessment services that facilitate access to markets for South African industry, thereby improving its competitiveness in the global trade environment. The SABS, with its rich history in standardisation, will continue to play a significant role in ensuring that industry is kept abreast of the pace of the dramatic transition of the world economy through standards development and quality assurance services, thereby providing industry with the quality edge.

The South African delegation, led by CEO Mr Blake Mosley-Lefatola, is participating in the 32nd African Organisation for Standardisation General Assembly taking place in Mombasa, Kenya.

The ARSO GA provides a strategic platform for African standards bodies to advance harmonisation of standards, mutual recognition, and the promotion of “One Standard. One Test. One Certificate” in support of increased intra-African trade and the objectives of the 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮 (𝗔𝗙𝗖𝗙𝗧𝗔) Secretariat.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, Sabs Standards signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗦 𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗔 , reinforcing cooperation between the two institutions and strengthening collaboration in areas of standards development, conformity assessment, technical cooperation, and knowledge exchange.

These partnerships demonstrate Africa’s commitment to building a resilient quality infrastructure that supports trade facilitation, industrial development, consumer protection, and sustainable economic growth across the continent.

Yesterday, Sabs Standards hosted a delegation from the Namibian Gambling Board, together with the , for an information exchange session focused on
gambling-related standards requirements.

The engagement provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share experiences, discuss approaches to the development and implementation of standards within the gambling sector, and explore areas of mutual interest in strengthening standardisation support for the industry.

The collaboration builds on the long-standing cooperation between the Sabs Standards and in the field of standardisation. Both institutions continue to work together to promote harmonisation, knowledge sharing, and the advancement of standards that support trade, consumer protection, and economic development within the region.

Executive Mayor, Tshepiso Mphehlo, accompanied by dignitaries, took a walk through the Mahikeng Farmers Market, visiting farmers and exhibitors, meeting the people behind the products, hearing their stories and showing their support by purchasing products directly from local farmers.

From fresh produce to locally made goods, the market was filled with products worth discovering and supporting.

The South African Bureau of Standards, The National Consumer Commissionumer and Consumer Goods and Services Ombud stands welcomed visits from farmers and exhibitors, who stopped by to engage with the teams and learn more about how we can support their businesses.

The conversations brought plenty of questions, knowledge-sharing and valuable insights, creating opportunities for farmers and businesses to connect, learn and grow.
