Good Day

Did you know that the Tshwane Hub Of Arts is an Archeological site?

In the past we shared a story about the history of the building in continuation with that historical aspect of the Tshwane Hub Of Arts.

In 1996, during the upgrade of Minnaar Street an old Rubbish Dump site was unearthed on this site excavated by Archeologists from the National Cultural History Museum.

Various artifacts were recovered from these excavations including porcelain, bottles, bones and metal. These items are now preserved in the Ditsong National Museum Of Cultural History next door to The Tshwane Hub of Arts.

An analysis of these materials dates the site to a period between the late 19th century to 20th century. It gives insight to the lives of early Pretorians.

Good Day,

As the Corona Virus takes an unprecedented toll on humanity, it has now become urgent for every person to take responsibility over their hygiene. True the government has a role to play to curb the spread of the virus but some basic hygiene rules are now inevitable.

At The Tshwane Hub of Arts, we have approximately 40 residents and an additional 40 non-residents who come every morning and leave at the end of each day. With such a huge number of people operating within close proximity, we have taken measures to mitigate any risks that can be posed should the pandemic visit any of our Members. In keeping with the President’s directive, we are implementing Four key Hygienic rules until further notice;

1. Avoid close contact with anyone. Maintain a length of two meters from any person.

2. Wash hands regularly with soap. Carry a sanitizer and use it on a regular basis.

3. Avoid touching the face with your hands, especially the mouth and eyes.

4. Avoid crowded spaces.

To this end, our non-resident staff have been reduced by half. We have done this by working out a roster where they work only on alternate days. Staff will be paid their salaries in full in spite of working only half the days in a month.

The Government and the City of Tshwane through the Department of Health, are taking around the Hygiene message to the people to ensure that everyone is equipped with the right information!

We fully support the Government’s initiative!

Good day our beloved Facebook Friends and Followers,

We trust you’ve been enjoying our posts. Last week we shared a bit about the history of the HUB where we operate from. Today we want to continue with the story a little more...

At the entrance of the building you will find a beautiful Monument with Artistic Purple Mosaic. It was elected on the 18th of October 2002 to commemorate two special purposes;

1. Firstly to celebrate the first Jacaranda trees in South Africa which were planted on this spot and street in the year 1888, having been imported from Brazil. Pretoria is today popularly referred to as the Jacaranda City due to the thousands of Jacaranda trees that now line up the streets and the residential areas. Further beyond Pretoria, there are millions of other Jacaranda trees found across South Africa. The first seedlings owe their origin at this spot at The Tshwane Hub of Arts.

2. The Second purpose of the Jacaranda Monument is to acknowledge and celebrate the foreigners who have migrated to South Africa over a number of years!

When the Mayor of the City, Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa inaugurated the Jacaranda Monument on 18th of October 2002 South Africa had experienced a wave of Xenophobic attacks against some foreign nationals. The Monument was to send a clear message - Pretoria is for all people to reside, work and enjoy. The City is in the forefront of fighting for the equality and rights of all HUMANS and needless to say TREES as well!

We are so excited to be part of the ongoing history and journey of Pretoria. Please take a moment to read the message inscribed on the Jacaranda Monument. It is powerful and enriching.
