Agbiz Congress 2026 has officially wrapped up in Gqeberha.

Under the theme Embracing Collaboration, the Congress brought together leaders from across South Africa's agricultural value chains for two days of meaningful discussions on economic growth, trade, infrastructure, biosecurity, policy, innovation and the future of agriculture.

The event also marked the election of Agbiz's new leadership and showcased the next generation of agricultural talent through the Student Case Competition.

A sincere thank you to all delegates, members, sponsors, speakers, students, media partners and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the Congress.

Final panel of brought a thought-provoking close to the programme in Gqeberha.

The session on Regulatory Over-reach and the Nanny-State Phenomenon: How Value Chains React to Changing Trends in Agricultural Policy was facilitated by Dr Melissa van der Merwe (Stellenbosch University), bringing together Anthony Viljoen (PepsiCo), Annelize Crosby (Agbiz), Dr Thomas Funke (SA Canegrowers Association), and Dr Marietjie Botes.

The discussion explored how agricultural value chains are responding to shifting policy environments, balancing regulation, competitiveness, and long-term sustainability in a rapidly evolving sector.

The programme concluded with a hospitality sponsor video from OBARO, followed by closing remarks and the official conclusion of Congress delivered by Sean Walsh.

Day 2 of is underway in Gqeberha as we wrap up an impactful programme under the theme *Embracing Collaboration*.

The morning opened with Sino Moabalobelo calling Congress to order, followed by a welcome from Agbiz Deputy Chairperson Antois van der Westhuizen, and a reminder that feedback from yesterday’s parallel sessions is available on the Congress app.

The programme continues with important discussions on South Africa’s global positioning and trade outlook, featuring Anesh Maistry from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, followed by Sharon Modiba from ITAC, who will unpack priorities and diversification strategy.

A strong start to the final day as delegates continue engaging on the future of South Africa’s agricultural and economic landscape.

One of the highlights of the Agbiz Congress 2026 Gala Dinner was the presentation of Agbiz Honorary Awards to two exceptional leaders whose contributions have left a lasting mark on South African agriculture and agribusiness.

Congratulations to Justin Chadwick, former CEO of the Citrus Growers' Association of Southern Africa, and Sean Walsh, former Managing Director of KAL Group Limited, on receiving this well-deserved recognition.

Through decades of service, leadership and dedication, both recipients have helped shape industries, build institutions, mentor future leaders and strengthen the agricultural value chain. Their impact extends far beyond the organisations they led, leaving legacies defined by vision, resilience, collaboration and a commitment to the people they served.

Agbiz was pleased to host its Gala Dinner at , bringing delegates together for an evening of networking, reflection and engagement.

The evening was opened by Agbiz CEO Theo Boshoff, with a welcome address from Rico Basson, followed by remarks from Brendan Jacobs of Standard Bank.

Delegates also had the privilege of hearing from the Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen, who joined the Congress as the evening's guest speaker.

The Gala Dinner provided an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of this year's theme, Embracing Collaboration, and the partnerships that continue to strengthen South Africa's agricultural value chains.
