The Market @ the Sheds is collaborating with major partners – Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), the City of Tshwane | Official (Page), AWIEF and the United States Mission to South Africa– to host the biggest entrepreneurship day in the City of Tshwane since 2019.
Tshwane’s most colourful monthly market, the Market at the Sheds, has partnered with SEDA, the City of Tshwane, AWIEF and the United States Mission to South Africa to host a first-of-its-kind entrepreneurship day in the City of Tshwane at 012 Central, 381 Helen Joseph St, Pretoria Central on 3 December 2022. The day kicks off with a seminar for entrepreneurs at 9h00 and the market officially opens for visitors at 11h00.
The aim of the event is to highlight available entrepreneurial support in the city as well as to provide a platform for around 100 supported entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products to the local market.
Entrepreneurship development in Tshwane is supported through a partnership between SEDA and the City of Tshwane. This partnership ensures that business development services are provided to entrepreneurs in all 7 regions of the City. Through the support of the City, SEDA is able to extend its services in 8 offices, making it accessible to local communities and township areas.
This event also provides an opportunity to support women-led SMMEs from South Africa, as it features more than 30 alumni of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a program run by the United States Mission to South Africa in partnership with AWIEF to support women for self-employment. The AWE South Africa program has seen four cohorts of young women empowered, not only with the requisite knowledge and skills they need to own and manage successful businesses of their own, but also personal development and growth.
About the Market at the Sheds:
The Market at the Sheds has, to date, hosted over 100 memorable events in and around Pretoria. Before its residency at the 012 Central, the market operated in a ‘pop-up’ style, where it was hosted at various locations across the City of Tshwane. The market was dubbed “the most popular stage” at the World Choir Games. It was part of the official opening of the Javett-UP Art Centre and has hosted Pretoria’s Fete de la Musique for five years, among other headline events. It has previously enjoyed partnerships with Freedom Park, Menlyn Shopping Centre, Brooklyn Mall, the historic Pretoria Old Fire Station, the Pioneer Museum, and many other private and corporate partners.
The market’s unique monthly event has become popular in the City of Tshwane. It is known as a place to experience the local urban culture and its relationship with local art, fashion, food and design. It has also become a popular tourist destination where visitors enjoy performances from local talent and unique flavours of the city centre in a safe, entertaining and authentic environment. At the market, patrons also explore a repertoire of proudly local brands, fine designers, fashion, arts and gourmet food, cocktails, wine and craft drinks.
Free and safe parking is available at 216 Sisulu Street, which provides direct access to the market. Visitors can also park at the South African State Theatre, a 140 metres distance from the main entrance.
