APPREHENSION OF SUSPECTS ATTEMPTING TO EVADE SAPS

UNITS INVOLVED
* CSI SPECIAL OPERATIONS UNIT
* CSI ARMED RESPONSE UNIT
* BROOKLYN SAPS
* TMPD

During the morning hours of 23 May 2026, members of the CSI Special Operations Unit together with the CSI Armed Response Unit were conducting proactive observation operations relating to ongoing incidents involving cellphone snatching in the Brooklyn and surrounding areas.

While deployed, the teams received an urgent request for backup from Brooklyn SAPS, who at the time were actively involved in a high-speed pursuit of a suspect vehicle attempting to evade law enforcement officers.

Upon receiving the request, CSI units immediately mobilized to assist Brooklyn SAPS and TMPD in the operation. Information regarding the suspect vehicle and direction of travel was rapidly communicated between all responding units, allowing for coordinated deployment throughout the affected areas.

As the pursuit intensified, responding members attempted on several occasions to safely stop and contain the suspect vehicle. However, due to the reckless and dangerous driving behaviour displayed by the suspect driver, the pursuit escalated into a high-speed chase through the streets of Menlo Park and surrounding routes leading toward the N1 off-ramp.

Throughout the pursuit, all involved units maintained constant communication while strategically positioning themselves in an effort to minimize the risk to members of the public and successfully bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

Near the N1 off-ramp, a tactical manoeuvre was executed with pinpoint precision by the combined teams, successfully bringing the suspect vehicle to a controlled stop without injury to any civilians, members, or responding officers.

The suspects were immediately detained on scene by members of Brooklyn SAPS and subsequently transported to Brooklyn Police Station for further investigation and processing.

The successful outcome of this incident once again highlights the importance of rapid inter-agency cooperation, coordinated tactical response, and effective communication between private security role players and law enforcement agencies.

*A special word of thanks is extended to the MenloClose Initiative for their valuable assistance and CCTV footage, which contributed significantly to operational awareness during the incident.*

Well done to all members and agencies involved for their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication in ensuring the successful apprehension of the suspects

SUCCESS REPORT
16/05/2026 | 13:17

At approximately 13:15 on 16 May 2026, the Ridgefield Security Estate R11 response vehicle, operated by Quatro, was conducting proactive patrols within the estate and surrounding area when a resident alerted the officer to a suspicious blue Ford EcoSport observed near his premises.

According to the resident, construction work was taking place at the property at the time, and the access gate was believed to have been left open to allow contractors entry and exit. The resident became suspicious after noticing the vehicle stop near the premises under circumstances that appeared unusual and potentially opportunistic. It was suspected that the occupants may have entered the property while access was unintentionally available.

Upon receiving the information, R11 immediately responded by placing the vehicle under observation and promptly notifying the Ridgefield Security Estate Control Room. The Control Room immediately escalated the matter and requested additional assistance through the ASF Action Group in order to coordinate a broader operational response and increase situational awareness among all nearby role players.

R11 maintained visual observation of the suspicious vehicle for as long as possible while continuing to provide updates to responding units. Due to heavy traffic conditions in the vicinity of Garsfontein Road, visual contact with the vehicle was unfortunately lost for a short period.
Fortunately, members of Garsfontein SAPS, specifically GF28, were also active in the area and responded swiftly to the circulated information. Through coordinated efforts and rapid communication between all involved role players, SAPS successfully located and stopped the blue Ford EcoSport.
Upon inspection, four occupants were found inside the vehicle.
The individuals are known to various operational and security role players within the area and have previously been flagged in connection with suspicious behaviour and incidents of a similar nature reported across the broader community. It must however be noted that all allegations remain subject to proper investigation, supporting evidence, and due legal process.

The individuals were escorted to the police station for further investigation and profiling, where the Station Commander also attended to the matter personally.
Unfortunately, the complainant did not wish to open a criminal case, and as no property had been stolen or confirmed missing at the time of the incident, SAPS could not lawfully detain the individuals further in terms of current legal requirements.
Despite this, the incident yielded a positive operational outcome. The suspicious vehicle was successfully stopped, the occupants were identified, and valuable information was obtained and shared amongst SAPS members and operational role players.

This contributes significantly toward ongoing intelligence gathering, strengthens future monitoring capabilities, and assists in building a clearer operational picture regarding suspicious activity within the area.

This incident once again highlights the importance of vigilant residents, proactive patrol operations, rapid information sharing, and strong cooperation between community members, private security companies, neighbourhood structures, and SAPS.
