DAY 2: Strategic Planning & Resource Mobilisation

Building Sustainable Organisations for Long-Term Impact

Day 2 of our Mpumalanga NPO capacity-building workshop focused on an equally important question:

How can community organisations strengthen themselves and access the resources they need to sustain their work?

The day focused on strategic planning and resource mobilisation, giving participating NPOs practical tools and knowledge to think more strategically about their organisational sustainability.

Through the strategic planning sessions, organisations reflected on their priorities, goals and how they can translate their vision into practical and achievable actions.

The resource mobilisation sessions explored the different opportunities available to NPOs to mobilise resources, going beyond traditional grant funding to consider partnerships, networks and other opportunities that can support long-term organisational sustainability.

The conversations reinforced that having a strong programme or a good idea is only part of the journey. Sustainable organisations need clear strategies, strong systems, meaningful partnerships and the ability to mobilise the resources required to deliver their work.

For Indalo Inclusive, capacity building is about more than providing information. It is about equipping organisations with practical tools that they can continue using beyond the workshop to strengthen their organisations and increase their impact.

We look forward to seeing the ideas and strategies developed through these sessions translate into stronger organisations and greater impact within Mpumalanga communities.

DAY 1: Policy Influence & Strategic Planning

Strengthening Community Voices: From Policy to Action

On Day 1 of our capacity-building workshop in Mpumalanga, Indalo Inclusive focused on policy influence, advocacy and strategic planning, supporting NPOs to strengthen their ability to engage meaningfully in the Just Energy Transition.

Participants engaged with the South Africa Just Energy Transition (JET) Framework, reflecting on how the current framework responds to community priorities and where there may be opportunities to strengthen it as a new version is developed.

As a practical exercise, NPOs were tasked with developing position papers, using their understanding of the JET Framework and experiences from their communities to identify key issues, articulate community interests and put forward recommendations.

The session also explored different forms of advocacy and how civil society organisations can use evidence, collective voices and strategic engagement to influence policy and decision-making.

Participants were also introduced to practical strategic planning tools, helping organisations connect their vision and objectives with clear priorities and actions.

The discussions highlighted an important message:

Communities should not only be recipients of policy—they should have the knowledge, evidence and platforms to help shape it.

Through this work, Indalo Inclusive continues to support NPOs to strengthen their voices and play a more active role in shaping an inclusive and just transition.

On 5 August 2026, Indalo Inclusive hosted a Lodge Link App Consultation Workshop with enterprises participating in the Timbavati Supplier Development Programme (TSDP). The session introduced local enterprises to Lodge Link, a digital platform designed to connect TSDP enterprises with lodges within the Timbavati Nature Reserve, creating easier access to markets and procurement opportunities.

The Timbavati Supplier Development Programme, in partnership with the Timbavati Nature Reserve and the Timbavati Foundation, aims to strengthen local enterprises by improving their business capacity, market readiness and access to opportunities within the tourism value chain. Through the upscaling of the programme, supported by TOMSA, Indalo Inclusive is expanding this work to create greater market access and strengthen local procurement within the tourism economy.

This is an important step towards strengthening market access, digital inclusion and local procurement, while creating stronger economic linkages between the Timbavati tourism sector and surrounding communities.

A huge congratulations to all three teams, as well as all the entrepreneurs who participated in this year’s National Final. Reaching this stage is a significant achievement, and we look forward to seeing these innovators take their solutions to the next level.

We were also honoured to welcome Gabrielle Ossinga from SEAH4 as our guest speaker, who shared her experience, insights and encouragement with this year’s finalists. Gabrielle knows this journey firsthand, after winning the South African National Final last year, she went on to take the top spot at the ClimateLaunchpad Global Grand Final. SEAH4 is testament of what is possible when African climate innovators are given the platform and support to scale their ideas.

A special thank you to our incredible jury members: Nkululeko Nkosi, Zimkita Bilibana, Hleziphi Mtshizane and Nandipha Sibiya, for bringing their expertise and thoughtful perspectives to the judging process.

Much has been written about the Just Energy Transition, but what does it actually look like for the communities living through it?

The K-JET CEICC Project set out to explore that question by working alongside the Komati community, creating spaces for dialogue and helping turn locally identified opportunities into community-led enterprises.

One year after five community enterprises pitched their ideas at the Indalo Symposium, we're reflecting not only on how those enterprises have grown, but also on what this journey has taught us. From community dialogue to community enterprises, we've seen how listening, collaboration and local leadership can help communities identify opportunities and play an active role in shaping their own Just Energy Transition.

As we reflect on this milestone, we're pleased to share two resources that bring this journey to life, the Project Impact Video and Project Case Study. Together, they capture the voices, experiences, lessons and opportunities that emerged as the Komati community navigated change and built solutions from within.

Earlier this month, Indalo Inclusive proudly joined the Allfashion sourcing Cape Town exhibition to celebrate the incredible enterprises showcasing their talent, creativity, and sustainable fashion innovations during Fashion Week.

Through the Waste to Waist Pavilion, entrepreneurs demonstrated how fashion can drive environmental change, showcasing a greener approach as a lifestyle, where creativity, circularity, and sustainability come together to redefine the future of fashion.

🌍✨ THROWBACK: Day 3 of the CIIVIC Strategic Planning Workshop

What does it take to turn bold ideas into lasting impact?

Earlier this month, we wrapped up the final day of the CIIVIC Strategic Planning Workshop, and the momentum hasn't stopped.

On 10 July, six non-profit organisations from across Mpumalanga came together to move beyond ideas and build practical strategies for the future. Together, they explored the five guiding questions of strategic planning, unpacked their strengths and challenges through a SWOT analysis, and developed their own Strategic Planning Canvas to guide their next steps.

This is what strengthening ciivic infrastructure for a Just Energy Transition looks like: empowering the organisations already creating change with the tools, confidence, and strategy to grow their impact where it matters most.

Indalo Inclusive's Project Coordinator, Zizipho Nyangule, participated as a panelist in the roundtable discussion on "Synergies and Next Steps for Advancing Inclusive Green Industrialisation" at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa National Workshop on Innovative Climate Action to Accelerate Green Industrialisation in Southern Africa.

Drawing on Indalo's experience supporting clean-tech MSMEs, Zizipho reflected on the practical realities of advancing an inclusive green economy beyond policy commitments. She highlighted the challenges clean-tech enterprises face in driving the adoption of new technologies, particularly in the agri-tech sector, where innovative solutions often require significant behaviour change and market acceptance before they can scale. She also spoke to the regulatory and compliance barriers faced by enterprises, particularly within the renewable energy and water efficiency sectors, where meeting certification and product testing requirements can be costly and inaccessible for early-stage businesses. As a result, many enterprises are forced to rely on alternative mechanisms, such as third-party product testing, to build market credibility and unlock commercial opportunities.

The discussion further explored how MSMEs can become a stronger driving force for green industrialisation. This includes recognising the role that clean-tech enterprises already play in developing the green skills pipeline by hosting interns and work-integrated learning students. Strengthening and institutionalising partnerships with universities and TVET colleges would position these enterprises as recognised training institutions while providing them with longer-term access to technical skills.

She also emphasised that achieving a truly inclusive green industrialisation agenda requires greater investment in ecosystem building, particularly within underserved communities. Township-based clean-tech enterprises continue to demonstrate significant innovation and potential, yet many operate within ecosystems constrained by inadequate infrastructure, limited investment, weak local economic activity and restricted market opportunities. Creating enabling environments where these enterprises can access markets, attract investment and build strategic partnerships will be critical to unlocking their full contribution to South Africa's green economy.

After weeks of intensive coaching, pitch practice, and refining business models, we are thrilled to finally unveil our Top 10 Finalists for ClimateLaunchpad South Africa 2026! These incredible teams are tackling huge climate challenges across energy, water, mobility, mining, healthcare, and the circular economy.

Here’s who made the cut and what they’re building:

• Aeronautical Works is building an electric drone delivery network to transport medical supplies quickly while cutting down transport emissions.

• Green Protein transforms organic waste into high-value animal feed and fertilizer using Black Soldier Fly larvae and duckweed.

• LabZero created a 3D virtual lab simulation platform that helps researchers and students train digitally to prevent material waste in physical labs.

• Malesedi is accelerating clean last-mile delivery with their electric two-wheelers and battery-swapping infrastructure.

•Mvula Smart (Innohance) developed HydroNet, a smart rainwater tank filtration system with an app for real-time water quality and level tracking.

• OriGenes uses a closed-loop bioengineering system to convert agricultural waste into biopesticides, bio-preservatives, bio-stimulants, and biochar.

• Puno Minerals applies biotechnology to neutralize acid mine drainage while recovering battery-grade critical minerals from the runoff.

• ReSurfify manufactures biodegradable biosurfactants from local industrial by-products as an eco-friendly replacement for chemical surfactants.

• Resurgence Waste uses pyrolysis to turn old tires into fuel oil, carbon black, and steel, keeping rubber out of landfills.

• Zele Enterprise (Logistics Passing) created Eco-Energy Cooling Works to cut heat-related energy losses and boost the performance of solar systems, buildings, and storage units.

A massive congratulations to all ten teams! We can’t wait to watch them take the stage at the National Final and showcase the incredible climate innovation coming out of South Africa.
