IEASA The International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA), a non-profit organisation assisting the international needs of South African universities

The International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA), a non-profit organisation, was established as a result of the need for universities and universities of technology in South Africa to respond to international educational trends. If South Africa is to remain competitive within the global economic environment it is important that our higher education provides opportunities for student

s to obtain a global perspective to their studies. It also means that we open up international contacts which will benefit students, our tertiary institutions and will assist South Africa to be a competitor and participant in world markets.

🌍 AFRICA DAY 2026 | One Africa. One Future.

Today, we celebrate more than a continent.
We celebrate a legacy of resilience, innovation, knowledge, culture, and possibility.

Africa Day invites us to reflect on who we are, where we come from, and importantly — where we are going.

For too long, Africa has often been positioned at the margins of global conversations around higher education, research, mobility, and knowledge production. Yet across the continent, African institutions, scholars, students, and communities continue to shape solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
At IEASA, we believe the time has come not only to participate in global higher education conversations — but to lead them.

This year’s conference theme,
“REWRITING THE AGENDA: Internationalisation Through a Global South Lens,”
calls on us to critically rethink whose voices shape internationalisation, whose knowledge is valued, and how partnerships can become more equitable, reciprocal, and transformative.

As we celebrate Africa Day, we ask:

What would internationalisation look like if African perspectives, priorities, and lived realities were placed at the centre — rather than the periphery — of global higher education?

The future of international education cannot be built for Africa without being built with Africa.

Today, we honour our heritage while imagining bold, collaborative futures rooted in dignity, inclusion, and shared humanity.

🌍 One Africa. One Future.
