BREAKING: A First for South African Airspace Integration
What happens when a heavy-lift drone, a certified Mode S ADS-B transponder, an airport surveillance network and a controlled airspace environment all come together?
Visitors to AERO South Africa 2026 are about to find out.
In partnership with Hussar Security & Defence Solutions, SSASS Holdings will be conducting live demonstration flights of a DJI FlyCart 30 at Lanseria International Airport β one of the most advanced drone integration demonstrations ever showcased at a South African aviation exhibition.
The DJI FlyCart 30 will be equipped with a ping20Si Mode S ADS-B transponder from uAvionix Corporation, enabling the aircraft to operate as a fully cooperative airspace participant.
During the demonstrations, the onboard transponder will:
π‘ Respond to Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) interrogations
π‘ Broadcast ADS-B Out on 1090 MHz Extended Squitter (1090ES)
π‘ Transmit the drone's position, altitude, identity and velocity in real time
π‘ Become visible to surveillance systems and participating airspace users
This is the same technology framework that has enabled manned aviation to safely share airspace for decades.

The FlyCart 30's ADS-B transmissions will be displayed live on the uAvionix Corporation FlightLineβ’ Air Traffic Surveillance System at the SSASS Holdings Stand D26.
Visitors will be able to see:

π©οΈ Business aviation traffic arriving and departing
π Helicopter movements
π The DJI FlyCart 30 operating in real time
π‘ ADS-B surveillance data displayed on a common operating picture
This creates a powerful demonstration of how drones and manned aircraft can safely coexist in shared and controlled airspace when supported by proven electronic conspicuity technologies.
