💧 South Africa’s water wake-up call: Ignored warnings, failing infrastructure, and the cost of inaction

The country’s water challenges are becoming increasingly visible.

Jan Venter, CEO of the Southern African Plastic Pipe Manufacturers Association (Sappma), warns:

💬“The situation in is symbolic of a wider national problem. When half of a city’s reservoirs are leaking, when storage capacity is compromised and when basic preventative maintenance has not been carried out, even minor disruptions become crises. This is not a sudden collapse. It is a slow-motion failure that has been visible for years.”

The article explores how decades of under-investment and poor maintenance are threatening urban water security and the urgent need for proactive solutions.
