Who can apply?

Are you an informal or micro-enterprise operating in a township or rural community in the Eastern Cape?
Apply for support to grow your business, create jobs and contribute to a thriving local economy.

Supported sectors
• Manufacturing
• Clothing and textiles
• Automotive aftermarket
• Services, retail and ICT
• Biodiversity economy
• Other emerging innovations.
Listed activities are indicative and do not exclude emerging innovations that support local economic development.

What you can apply for
• Equipment and machinery
• Input materials.

What is not supported
• Cash payments to applicants
• Land or property purchases
• Construction or renovations to private buildings
• Business acquisitions
• Alcohol trading
• Unlawful or prohibited activities.

Good to know
• No cash payments – DEDEAT procures approved items and pays suppliers directly.
• Every applicant will be assessed for appropriate support and referrals, including registration assistance, skills development, mentorship and market access programmes.
• Applications will be assessed on evidence of trading, impact, growth potential, owner skills and inclusive participation (women, youth, persons with disabilities and military veterans).

Documents to attach
REQUIRED
1. Completed and signed IBSP application form.
2. Valid South African ID.
3. Proof of residence.
4. Evidence that the business has been operating for at least three months.
5. List of requested items and estimated prices (e.g. quotation or price list).
6. Biodiversity permit (where legally required).
OPTIONAL (IF AVAILABLE)
• Municipal license/permit.
• CIPC registration document.
• SARS registration.
• Business records, receipts or invoices.
• Employee information (where applicable).

KZN YOUTH EMPOWERMENT FUND 2026 | APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

Are you a young entrepreneur in KwaZulu-Natal ready to start, grow or scale your business? This is your opportunity to access funding and contribute to job creation and economic growth in our province.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, through the Office of the Premier, has officially opened applications for the KZN Youth Empowerment Fund 2026, providing funding from R1,000 up to R2 million to support eligible youth-owned businesses.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Young entrepreneurs aged 18–35 who reside and operate in KwaZulu-Natal, including informal traders, start-ups, emerging businesses and growing enterprises.

FUNDING CATEGORIES

Funding is structured according to business stage and job creation commitments:

🔘 R1,000 – R100,000: Minimum 2 jobs | Informal Traders / Start-ups
🔘 R100,000 – R500,000: Minimum 4 jobs | Emerging & Growing Businesses
🔘 R500,000 – R2,000,000: Minimum 10 jobs | Growth & Scale-up

PRIORITY SECTORS

Agriculture, Manufacturing, Technology, Tourism, Retail, Creative Industries and all other viable sectors.

HOW TO APPLY

Application forms are available at www.kznonline.gov.za⁠ and at your nearest Local or District Municipal Office. Completed application forms must be hand-delivered to your nearest Municipal Office. Emailed applications will NOT be accepted.

❤️ This one is very close to my heart.

For more than 10 years, I have worked with businesses and entrepreneurs—and I can genuinely say that I love this work.
