NEW STORY ALERT!
THE ACID TEST
CHAPTER 1
I met my wife, Rosa during my second year at the university. I was supposed to do placement at the law firm where she worked as a secretary, but I didn’t have the means. I was a broke student and couldn’t afford to live the university town where I lived and schooled to do internship at the other town. Taking care of myself and education alone was very difficult for me. So, I didn’t know how I was going to manage in another town where I knew no one, and had no accommodation.
I could still clearly remember the day our internship letters were distributed. I was very anxious because I had never done internship before. So, I consulted a few classmates and they told me what was required of me. They asked me to accompany them to town where they intended to drop their applications at the various law chambers in town. That day, I couldn’t afford transportation to move around. So, I lied to them that I was tired and I wouldn’t be going with them.
It was only a week later that I was able to raise money to move around town to try and drop my own internship applications, but I was late. Wherever I went, I was told, sometimes politely and sometimes rudely, that all the spaces had been taken. Tired and hungry, I trekked back home because I was out of money.
As I laid on my bed lamenting about my wasted day, I remembered a neighbour of mine once told me that he had an uncle who ran a law firm in the neighbouring town. I sprang up from bed and walked to his house to have a talk about it. When I got there, he told me that he would talk to his uncle it.
“Why don’t you call him now?” I urged.
“Are you so much in a haste?” He asked.
“Yes, I am almost out of time. My classmates have already begun theirs. I am the only one left.”
“Alright, let me call him now.” He spoke.
After the call, he told me that everything was in order. He said his uncle said there was still space for one more person. Half-excited because I didn’t even know
