This week, along the Limpopo River, our terrestrial, wetlands, soils and hydrology teams conducted fieldwork for a prospecting project.

Knowing where sensitive areas are provides valuable development guidance to the technical team, allowing layouts to be refined while the project is still in the planning phase. For this project, that means directing the prospecting footprint towards lower-sensitivity areas before detailed design and EIA specialist studies begin. ✅

With the constraints identified upfront, we can then prepare full EIA reports with fewer layout changes, less money spent and less time wasted later in the approval process.

What a week at the IAIASA Conference in Cape Town! 🌍

It was great to finally put faces to the names we usually only chat to over email, catch up with familiar friends, and have plenty of good conversations along the way. 🤝

A week well spent connecting, learning and being reminded how small yet collaborative our industry really is. 😄

we took teamwork to new heights! 🏗

Our staff Funday had everything from first-time climbers finding their feet to seasoned boulderers showing us their rock solid technique. There were plenty of laughs, encouraging shouts from below, and a few moments of discovering muscles we did not know we had. If you didn't discover them then, they sure found you the next morning!💪

It was a chance to connect outside of our usual roles in the office, and build on the trust that makes a strong team working as one. Whether we were reaching for the next hold or falling elegantly when we missed it, it was clear: we really do climb higher together. 🙌

Teamwork is what our company is built on. Whether it's in the field, writing reports or climbing massive rock walls with ease. Here’s to continuing taking on challenges together, one hold at a time 👌

Most people just see red sand dunes, but nobody asks: how is red sand dunes? 🙂

In reality, they’re sensitive systems that can take a very long time to recover once disturbed ☀️
On projects like this, the biggest impact is often not the infrastructure itself, but the construction footprint around it, especially access tracks, erosion, and surface disturbance 🏗 That’s why early specialist input and practical rehabilitation planning matters.

Helping an 800 Person Homeless Shelter Development in KZN

For this flood-sensitive site we needed to provide hydrology, 1:100-year floodline delineation and estuarine assessments to help developers understand site risk and practical mitigation needs 🌧️

The assessment looked at catchment behaviour, rainfall, flood modelling, and on-site conditions. The key finding was that a large portion of the site falls within the 1:100-year flood extent, with the site carrying a moderate flood risk.

With the recommended mitigation measures in place, hydrological impacts were assessed as Very Low to Low significance and development can go ahead ✅

Climate change reports are not just about weather 🌧

They are about whether climate risk could change how a project is approved, designed, operated, or financed.

For EAPs, that is usually the real question 📝

Yes, but . . . 🐜

On this project, we assessed the variables: vegetation, soils, and fauna use across rehabilitated slopes and compared them to reference grasslands on this TSF. The result? Clear signs of rehabilitation progress in Ecological and Agricultural restoration. This includes recovering grassland structure, improved soil condition, and use of the site by animals.

TSF rehabilitation is possible. 🍃
