The aftermath of the recent storm has had a heartbreaking effect on many in the Breede River region. Unfortunately, Merwida Vineyards and Huis Te Merwede were among those severely affected.
Ten of our farm workers' homes were affected, while approximately fifteen hectares of vineyards were washed away. Along with that, there's been a dramatic decline in visitor traffic and sales due to road closures, and it's had a devastating impact on our farm and hospitality business.
Like many in our valley, we are now facing the long road of rebuilding: Restoring vineyards and infrastructure while also supporting the families whose livelihoods depend on Merwida.
