BESTER is a limited range of elegantly crafted Swartland wines. So, do as the Besters do - pour a glass, sit back and enjoy life's more blissful moments.

BESTER is a limited range of elegantly crafted Swartland wines developed by Zakkie Bester, a well-known wine personality who, as proud Swartlander, can trace his roots back to his ancestor Andreas Bester who settled in Malmesbury in the 1700s.

These days Zakkie and his wife Sandra live in Riebeek Kasteel, with outposts in Cape Town and Malmesbury, where their children design roads and bridges, dictate fashion trends and fix people's spelling mistakes respectively. The clan has also acquired two strapping sons-in-law and the first member of the next generation joined the party with great fanfare in 2015.

BESTER wines are made for uncomplicated enjoyment.

Some recipes call for a glass of BESTER w**e. This is not one of them. 😂☕️

Kent’s Amazing Rusks are firmly in the coffee-dunking department, but they’re such a Bester family favourite that we couldn’t possibly keep the recipe to ourselves.

Packed with oats, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds, these are the rusks you want waiting in the tin for an early-morning ‘vaal-kolletjie’ breakfast on holiday, a quick bite before the weekday rush, or a long road trip with a flask of coffee riding sh***un.

Bake a batch, dry them overnight, and thank Kent later. As for the BESTER Family W**e? Save that for sundowners 🍷😉

Meet the BESTERS! Next up, Jacques Stemmet 🎸🍳🎬

The rock ’n’ roll guy who somehow turned out to be excellent family-man material.

Once upon a time, Jacques played bass in a rather loud band called The Great Apes. These days, life looks a little different, although he hasn’t exactly mellowed. He’s the spicy counterpart to Anna-Bet Stemmet, who nobody was entirely convinced would ever find someone capable of keeping up with her. Turns out, she just needed a bassist 😏

By day, Jacques works as a location manager in the film industry, a job that suits someone who loves travelling, photography and discovering interesting corners of the world. At home, you’re more likely to find him cooking up something ambitious, plotting ways to live a little more sustainably, or making his kids laugh.

Family matters enormously to Jacques. He remains very close to the Stemmet clan, spread between the Klein Karoo and Ireland. In fact, between the two families, there are now three brothers living in Ireland: two Stemmets and one Bester. Apparently The Emerald Isle is where brothers go 🇮🇪

Funny, adventurous, creative and just the right amount of spicy, Jacques brings plenty of flavour to the Bester family. Which, come to think of it, may explain why we so often find him near the food.
