Happy Wednesday from the Four Cousins family! 🍷

While cleaning through the aftermath of the flood, one of our older bottles seemed to peek out from the mud and say, “Hey, remember me?” 😄

This bottle carries one of our original Four Cousins labels, before the redesign. With more than a million bottles moving through our cellar over the years, it was quite special to spot a little piece of our history again.

Swipe to the second photo and you’ll see one of our newer labels also making an appearance beneath the flood mud.

Old or new, a Four Cousins bottle is always easy to recognise. ❤️

UPDATE:

As Four Cousins, we simply want to say thank you for every message, comment and word of encouragement we have received over the past few days.

Your messages remind us that we are not walking this road alone. Every comment, every kind word and every bit of support gives us motivation and makes moving forward easier.

We are also incredibly thankful for our team. Watching everyone stand together, work together and lift one another up during this time has meant more than words can say.

We keep our heads up and keep moving forward. This too shall pass, and if anything, moments like these remind us how challenges have a way of bringing people closer and making relationships even stronger.

There is still plenty to be done, but one thing remains clear, the teamwork, determination and positive spirit around us continue to stand strong.

Happy 60th birthday, Cousin Hennie! 🍃

Today, while things are a little different around us and the cleanup continues after the floods, we’re taking a moment at Four Cousins to celebrate a very special milestone. Cousin Hennie officially becomes the first of the four cousins to turn 60.

The man who knows every dam, canal and water meter on the farm, and who has helped shape and grow not only vineyards, but so much of what makes the Four Cousins story what it is today.

Side by side through every season, today we raise a glass to you, Hennie. Wishing you a wonderful birthday filled with happiness, good health and many more memories to make. 🍷

In this photo you’ll see the real-life Four Cousins standing side by side, from left to right: Neil Retief, Hennie Retief, Bussell Retief and Phillip Retief.

Just like on the Four Cousins bottle, they are standing exactly where they have always stood, side by side.

Although this has been a difficult and challenging time for us, moments like these remind us what matters most. Family. Showing up for one another. Standing together. Lifting each other when things get heavy.

The wine industry has taken a knock, and many farms, businesses and families are rebuilding after the recent floods. Your favourite Four Cousins wines will be available again soon, but for now we want to say something bigger than our own brand:

When the water came rushing through our valley, it brought with it one of the worst floods the town of Robertson has seen in more than 100 years.

The footage you are seeing is from our home at Four Cousins and Van Loveren Family Vineyards, where generations of family, people and passion have gone into making the wines shared around tables across the country.

Over the past few hours, our vineyards, cellar, infrastructure and wine stock have been heavily impacted as floodwater moved through the farm and winery. We are still assessing the full extent of the
damage while teams continue working around the clock across the farm and cellar.
Most importantly, our people are safe, warm, cared for and standing together.

While the road ahead will take time, the strength of our family, our team and our community gives us hope that we will rebuild, recover and come through this stronger together.
