Heads up: South African weather services are forecasting a very strong El Niño this summer, meaning drier, hotter conditions and less rainfall than normal across most of the country.

The organisations that come through a summer like this in the best shape are usually the ones that already know where their water is going, where it's being lost, and where the pressure points are. That's where we come in. Re-Solve helps municipalities and businesses get that visibility before a dry season becomes a costly one.

Worth checking in on your water management plan now, while there's still time.

South Africa doesn't have a rainfall problem. It has a systems problem. 💧

Nearly half of municipal wastewater treatment systems are now rated critical, and more than 47% of water is lost before it ever earns revenue. So what can municipalities actually do about it?

Our latest blog breaks it down: treat the network as one system, fix governance before pipes, go after water loss first, and maintain what you've already built.

Have a read and tell us what you think 👇

Somewhere on your site, water might be going where it shouldn't.

You may not see it. No puddle, no burst pipe. Just a faint sound inside a wall, a slight drop in pressure, or water usage that doesn't add up. A small leak left alone can waste a surprising amount of water over time.

That's where our team comes in. We sign in, check which reported leaks need attention, count our tools and get to work. Sometimes the leak is under concrete or inside a wall. Sometimes the valve that isolates it isn't marked, so we trace the pipework until we find it. Every site is different, so we start by looking, not assuming.

By the time we leave, the leak is dealt with, the work area is tidy and every tool is accounted for.

Got a leak you can't find? We can help.

South Africa's water challenges have been making headlines again, and government has responded with the National Water Action Plan.

The plan aims to fast track infrastructure repairs, improve accountability at municipal level and tackle system pollution, all in response to a national reliability rate that has dropped to around 68%, with more than half of municipal water and wastewater treatment systems currently in poor or critical condition.

It's a reminder of just how much infrastructure work sits behind the water that reaches our taps, and why the kind of monitoring and assessment work we do matters more than ever.

Clean water changes everything, especially in a rural healthcare setting.

Re-Solve partnered with Winder Controls to support Segwaelane Clinic in Brits, North West, through a borehole installation and water quality assessment. For the clinic's patients and staff, it means better sanitation, smoother day-to-day operations, and a more sustainable future.

Plans for water purification are already in the pipeline to take it one step further.

This is the kind of work we're proud to be doing. 💧

As spring brings more water activity, it's a good time to think about how we use and protect that water.

Responsible water use isn't just about saving during a drought. It's an ongoing mindset, one that considers how catchments, rivers and dams are managed all year round, and how businesses, municipalities and communities can reduce unnecessary strain on these systems.

Small, consistent choices in how water is used and managed add up to a real difference over time.

💧 Up to 40% of South Africa's treated water is lost before it ever reaches a tap.

That's nearly half of what we clean and pump, gone through leaks, ageing infrastructure and theft, right when water security matters most.

The good news is that reducing water loss doesn't need to be complicated. In our latest blog, we look at practical, affordable ways to cut losses and conserve water, from early leak detection and smart pressure management to community-led water saving habits.

Some behind the scenes from a recent project in Nigel, Gauteng.

We were appointed to run a 48-hour pressure logging exercise at the entrance to a correctional facility on Johnson Road, an area that forms part of a supply network serving several large industrial consumers upstream. Before logging began, our team carried out a full site inspection alongside a representative from the facility to identify the right monitoring point and assess the condition of existing infrastructure.

The logging showed pressures ranging from as low as 1.3 bar to just under 3 bar over the monitoring period, with clear daily fluctuation. Combined with on-site observations, including ageing infrastructure and a partially closed isolation valve, this kind of data gives a clear, evidence-based picture of what's really happening on the ground.

Here's something worth knowing: South Africa doesn't have one single "spring rainy season."

September looks completely different depending on where you are. In the Western Cape, the winter rains are tailing off, though the odd cold front still brings showers. Inland regions like Johannesburg and the Highveld are dry and warm, with summer thunderstorms only kicking in around mid-October or November. KwaZulu-Natal and the Garden Route sit somewhere in between, with light, irregular showers.

For municipalities and businesses managing water infrastructure across different regions, this means readiness plans need to be regionally specific. What applies in Cape Town won't apply in Gauteng.

Ever wondered what a "catchment area" actually is?

In simple terms, it's all the land drained by a river system, from the mountains all the way to the sea. Every drop that falls within that area eventually makes its way to the same river, dam or water body.

Here's what makes this especially important in South Africa: our mountain catchments and Strategic Water Source Areas cover under 10% of the country's land, yet they supply more than half of our surface water. What happens in these areas, from vegetation to land use, has an outsized effect on water availability nationwide.
