Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which also marks the start of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence (GBV). The Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN) joins the call to end violence, abuse and discrimination against women and girls.
One in three women will experience violence in their lifetime according to the United Nations. Violence against women and girls can be physical, sexual and psychological, including:
β’ intimate partner violence (battering, psychological abuse, marital r**e, femicide);
β’ sexual violence and harassment (r**e, forced sexual acts, unwanted sexual advances, child sexual abuse, forced marriage, street harassment, stalking, cyber-harassment);
β’ human trafficking (slavery, sexual exploitation)
β’ female ge***al mutilation; and
β’ child marriage.
The RBN encourages those who have experienced abuse, feel threatened, unsafe or need assistance, to contact GBV centres or law enforcement agencies for help.
Together let us unite to end violence against women.
