The law states that only qualified South African Qualification & Certification Committee (SAQCC) Gas registered installers are allowed to install or service any gas appliance. The law also requires all gas installations to have a valid certificate of compliance, much like an electrical or plumbing certificate.

Switch to gas and SAVE!
The benefits? The list is endless…

- Gives you an instant cooking flame.

- Is easy and instantaneous to light.

- Has a higher heating value, allowing you to heat your home at a lower price.

- Is easy to transport.

- Is easy to control. The blue flame is visible, and its size is easily controlled over a wide range so that the required rate of heating can be obtained.

- Is non-poisonous and safe to use.

- Burns cleanly and does not produce any soot, smoke or smell during combustion, therefore leaving your kitchen clean.

- Is pure, and very consistent in quality.

- Adds to your comfort because cooking is quick, and the kitchen does not get heated as with other fuels like wood or charcoal.

- Best of all is you can still cook your family a meal and have a hot shower when the power fails.

- Is compatible with many different appliances and easy to maintain.

If you need tips on how to switch to LP gas in your home, Help-U-Gas is here to help.

Do you require a cage for your outside gas bottle/s?
The LPG SA SA compliance Regulations for outdoor gas bottle placement are as follows:

1. If you have your gas bottle contained within a gas cage then the top of the gas bottle must be 300 mm below the window (a 19Kg bottle is between 800 – 900mm tall).
2. If you do not wish to install a gas cage then the top of the gas bottle must be 3m below the window.
3. If you can find a position that is not below a window then the distance from a door or window must be 1m or more.
4. Distance to open drain or gulley 2m or more (LP Gas is heavier than air so if it leaks it will gather in drains or gullies because it sinks).
5. Distance to electrical source of ignition must be 5m or more (examples are pool pump, db board, aircon pump, motor, electric fence, etc).
6. Your bottle must sit on a firm raised level base (ie. Concrete or bricks).
7. Distance below an electrical source of ignition must be 1.5 m or more (even light fixtures).

DID YOU KNOW?
If your home is damaged or destroyed as a result of a defective gas appliance and you do not have a valid certificate issued by someone registered with LPGAS – the insurance implications could be significant.

However, most homeowners are unaware that there are specific regulations that they must comply with when installing gas equipment in their homes to ensure their insurance policy remains valid.

It is vital for all homeowners to realise that such an inspection is not just essential for their insurance policy to remain valid, but even more importantly, that it is conducted to ensure that the installation is safe and their family is not put at risk.
