Masisizane Fund The Masisizane Fund is a non-profit funding entity. The fund is an Old Mutual initiative that was established in 2007.

The fund offers development finance and business support. The spirit of our organisation is embodied in our name itself – Masisizane, meaning ‘let us help each other’. The Masisizane Fund has a specific focus on black women, youth, and people with disabilities. Our work is concentrated in under-developed areas of South Africa, including its rural areas, small towns, and townships, where businesses are typically seen as high-risk and struggle to secure finance through traditional channels. It is our belief that these same enterprises can ignite whole local economies in creating jobs and kick-starting smaller, associated businesses – and that is why we are passionate in our support of them. We drive Enterprise Development to SMMEs through a combination of loan financing and non-financial business support.

To take us through the Masisizane Investment Readiness Programme, John Maytham recently spoke to Thabang Hleza, Head of Investments: Old Mutual Masisizane Fund.

“We need to start seeing young people as job creators, not job seekers.”

A powerful reminder from Ndumiso Zulu.

Entrepreneurship goes beyond starting a business; it’s about identifying problems and delivering meaningful solutions, and it’s a skill that can be developed from an early age.

Real change becomes possible when we begin early, shaping mindsets at home, in classrooms, and across our communities.
