Join the conversation🎙️
We're honored to convene leaders from across agriculture and food systems at the Africa Food Systems Forum in Kigali on Thursday, September 3, 2026, for a McKinsey session: "Inclusive Livestock Sector Transformations: Executive Roundtable & Luncheon."

The session will be led by our East Africa Managing Partner and co-leader of our Agriculture practice in Africa, alongside Chania Frost, Associate Partner and co-leader of our Agriculture practice, together tackling a critical question: Africa is home to some of the world's largest livestock populations, so why does the sector still capture only a fraction of its potential value for farmers, consumers, and economies?

Expect a dynamic, interactive session, from testing assumptions to debating solutions. A rapid-fire audience poll, compelling analysis, and a fireside discussion with industry leaders will set up the debate.

If you're working on livestock, agriculture, or food systems in Africa and would like to join the conversation, reach out in the DM. We'd love to connect.

McKinsey's research on Africa's business champions tells a story that extends far beyond corporate scale. These companies are quietly powering the continent's economic growth, generating jobs, cultivating skills, investing in infrastructure, and deepening supply chains. Just as crucially, they function as anchor ecosystems, nurturing the SMEs and suppliers that feed into their value chains.

Acha Leke, our Africa Chairman, recently sat down with The Economist to discuss how these large, diversified conglomerates are driving a quiet business revolution across the continent.

Infrastructure delivery, not infrastructure ambition, is Africa's defining challenge. Our partner, Gerhard Nel recently shared our perspectives with Engineering News on how technology-driven project management can help bridge that gap.

Across the continent, infrastructure investment is gaining momentum, yet many projects continue to face delays, cost overruns, and ex*****on challenges. Improving delivery will require more than capital. It will require stronger project management, digital tools, AI-enabled decision making, and proven delivery approaches.

At McKinsey, we've seen how advanced project analytics, digital control towers, and AI-powered project management tools can help improve productivity, strengthen decision making, and increase delivery certainty across complex capital projects.
