We were expected to see a “blue wave” of democracy blowing through the US right now, but it is fair to say that most analysts underestimated how strong the Donald Trump voter base is. Given the current momentum, you would probably rather be in Joe Biden’s shoes this morning as he has more pathways to the presidency, but this election is on knifes edge and could still go either way.
Financial markets are too complex for one person to influence, and a change in governance very rarely turns out to be a game changer for the markets. Once this election is completed, the pressing issue will still be a potential stimulus package to get the public through the devastating effect of the Coronavirus pandemic. Since Congress drives fiscal spending, it is the Senate election race that holds more attention for us, and this race is currently locked in a dead heat.
Keep an eye on the US Dollar, an overly weak Dollar points to a Democratic Party Senate win. There is all to play for at the moment – and the Senate is possibly as important as the Presidency race right now!
