New measures have been announced by the President of the Republic on Thursday, 29 October 2020. These new measures include:

1.The resumption of the issuance of tourist visas.

2. Exemption from the quarantine regime for travellers who, on entry into the country, present a negative PCR test for COVID-19, carried out in the last 72 hours.

3. The validity of the test for COVID-19 is now 14 days, from the date of sample collection for individuals of Mozambican or foreign nationality who need multiple entries into the country in a short period of time or who make a short trip abroad. Citizens who have not submitted the PCR test will now be subject to quarantine or self-supported testing.

4. Children from 0 to 11 years of age, they are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test when entering the country.

Specifically, the exemption from quarantine for travellers with a negative PCR test for COVID-19 will certainly be helpful in situations of short-term assignments.

The in Mozambique are currently allowing business travellers to enter the territory and conduct business activities provided that they have the necessary Government approvals. Should work activities exceed that of business-related activities, travellers must obtain a short-term work permit prior to travel.

It is recommended to submit business visa applications at least 3 weeks prior to departure to Mozambique. The visa application process has changed recently, and all submission are being sent to for processing and not in the applicant’s country of residence. Please be aware that the may request additional documents due to the pandemic.

On 20 July 2020, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Land and Environment, and the Interior signed a Tripartite agreement in Maputo, Mozambique.

This project forms part of the implementation of the MOZBIO2 project which aims to develop testing of pilot electronic . Each department will play significant roles in the project.

The Ministry of the Interior will be responsible for administering, managing and inspecting at national borders.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will be responsible for marketing programmes for tourist and destinations and promoting .

The Ministry of Land and Environments will promote the conservation of areas, specifically focussing on nature-based .

President Filipe Nyusi announced on 28 June 2020 the extension of the state of emergency in for an additional 30 days.

During the extended state of emergency period that starts on 30 June 2020, restrictive measures will be gradually relaxed, and may be reversed depending on the rate of increase of cases.

Several sectors including education, business, culture and tourism will be reopening in strict compliance with the preventive measures and protocols defined by the Ministry of Health.

In the efforts to increase tourism and stimulate business, both greatly affected by the pandemic, the country will be open to investors, specialists and visitors, and flights from selected countries will be allowed.

Mozambican President, Nyusi announces that visa issuance will be suspended and previously granted visas will be revoked effective from 23 March 2020 for a period of 30 days.

The President did not address nationalities that are visa-exempt to enter Mozambique or foreign nationals who require visa extensions in-country during this period. The President further states that Mozambican travellers - native or foreign, will be subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

In addition to this, schools will be closed, and public or private gathering of more than 50 people will be banned, except those of national interest.

MOZAMBIQUE UPDATE:

The Mozambique government has temporarily suspended the issuance of visas to travellers from China but has permitted asymptomatic persons with valid visas to enter the country from countries affected by COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health has instituted a 14 day self-quarantine period for asymptomatic passengers arriving from COVID-19 affected countries.
