CAN PEOPLE PLEASE STOP LAMBASTING LEADERSHIP AND PUTTING ALL ILLS AT THE FEET OF LEADERSHIP. CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP AND CITIZENSHIP IN GENERAL ALSO HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES.
The topic of leadership is something that sits very close to my heart and so does Organization Culture and responsible Corporate Citizenship.
I have a fundamental problem with leadership being the scapegoat for all cultural and performance issues! This is an incredibly narrow view of something MUCH bigger than we can begin to comprehend.
When a leader inherits a broken culture with badly behaved corporate citizens, there is NO SILVER BULLET THAT WILL FIX THIS. Changing human behavior is absolutely possible but for goodness sakes, it takes time, consistency, accountability, consequences and reward.
LEADERSHIP IS A COMMON COMPETENCY ACCROSS ALL LEVELS OF EMPLOYMENT.
Corporate Citizenship is built by ALL citizens taking responsible ownership for their own competencies, including leadership, self-awareness of how they show-up and play-out, being leaders of themselves first and foremost.
