Flourish

Flourish Flourish! is the inaugural annual conference of the South African Organisational Development Network (SAODN).

is a conference designed to be a conductor of ideas and to probe OD theories in a collaborative environment, thereby allowing delegates to take a step forward in their OD and change management efforts and find new opportunities to encourage effective partnering for sustained results. is more than just an ordinary conference that you simply attend and listen. It is something that you’re a part of –

bringing together a community of innovators, game changers and thought leaders who are passionate about making their business flourish. This year’s conference will take a quantum leap off the back of previous successes to equip organisational leaders, influencers and development practitioners with the knowledge, experiences, success stories and support required to ruthlessly engage complexity and deliver meaningful integration through collaborative leadership coaching that focuses on organisation development and change. The conference will provide a platform that allows delegates to:
• leverage the prevailing investment of resources in change initiatives
• remedy unacceptably low levels of engagement and declining levels of productivity
• shift organisations fundamentally towards sustainable effectiveness and health

Who Should Attend
• Business Leaders
• Human Resource (HR) and Internal Organisation Development Managers
• Independent Organisational Development Practitioners
• Industrial Psychology and Change Management Professionals
• Other leaders of organisations who are making a contribution to improving the well-being and effectiveness of people and organisations

This is what some of the South African practitioners that have been on the year-long Path for Warriors for the Human Spirit programme say about Meg and her work:

“Being part of the 'Path for Warriors for the Human Spirit' with Meg Wheatley has been quietly
disruptive. I have been challenged by some of the thinking, touched by the compassion of the way
and called to practice developing clear perception and an open heart. Meg’s teachings are hard to
hear and impossible to ignore. She makes you think!” ~ Judy Bekker, Renaissance Business
Associates.

"What a relief to find a programme that isn’t trying to fix, reverse or change systems, but rather is
focused on building a community of ‘decent' human beings who are seeking to arm ourselves with
compassion and insight, and bring out the best in ourselves and others, while (trying to be!)
unattached to outcomes."
~ Paul Hollesen, Sustainability Pracitioner

Margaret Wheatley writes, speaks, and teaches how we can
accomplish our work, sustain our relationships, and willingly step
forward to serve in this troubled time. She is co-founder and
President of The Berkana Institute, an organizational consultant
since 1973, a global citizen since her youth, and a prolific writer.
She has authored nine books, including the classic Leadership
and the New Science (1992, 2005) and, most recently, Who Do
We Choose To Be? Facing Reality| Claiming Leadership|
Restoring Sanity (June 2017). Her other recent books are: How
Does Raven Know?: Entering Sacred World | A Meditative Memoir
(2014); So Far from Home: Lost and Found in Our Brave New
World (October 2012); Perseverance (2010) and Walk Out Walk
On: A Learning Journey into Communities Daring to Live the
Future Now (2011) co-authored with Deborah Frieze. Her
numerous articles may be downloaded free at her web site:

This book is born of my desire to summon us to be leaders for this time of profound disruption, to reclaim leadership as a noble profession that creates possibility and humaneness in the midst of increasing fear and turmoil.

Meg Wheatley in South Africa!

It is with great excitement that I would like to announce that the SAODN will be hosting the wise
and phenomenal Meg Wheatley in June 2018 in South Africa. I know many of you are familiar with
Meg’s work. I first came to know of her when I read Leadership and the New Science in the mid
1990’s, my first introduction to the world of complexity. The brief interactions I have had with her
on past visits to South Africa have left me wanting to learn more with and from her, which is why
this opportunity excites me so much.
Her new book, “Who Do We Choose To Be? Facing Reality, Claiming Leadership and Restoring
Sanity” invites us to be Warriors for the Human Spirit: leaders, activists, and citizens who make a
meaningful contribution in this time of increasing assaults on the human spirit and all life.
We invite you to participate in her workshops and retreat in June 2018. Book these dates and
take the opportunities to be with Meg in her master classes or the Retreat right now. We have
worked hard to make the prices affordable and we will be offering scholarships to all the events as
well. If your organisation would like an in-house master class with Meg, there is one opportunity to
host her during her trip available – let us know if your organisation would like to take up that offer.
