This year’s The Table is Big Enough theme — “Safe to Belong” — framed a powerful and necessary conversation about dismantling sexual harassment and gender-based violence in the workplace and society.

For us at Barloworld, this is not an abstract debate. It is a call to action for every one of us to get involved in building workplaces anchored in dignity, equity, and safety.
Our panel — Gugulethu Mfuphi, Roy Gluckman, Dr Lulu Gwagwa, Alfred Raulinga, Dr YondelaNdema, and Tumenjargal Boldbaatar — reminded us that creating cultures of belonging requires both courage and compassion, and leadership that chooses accountability over silence.

At Barloworld, we remain committed to taking these conversations beyond the stage and into our daily actions, ensuring that every employee is respected, protected, and empowered.

“Our brains do not distinguish between physical and psychological safety.”

That reminder from Roy Gluckman at the stayed with us. When people feel unseen or excluded, their bodies register it as a real threat. And in that state, no one can truly perform at their best.

This is why diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are not “nice to have” initiatives - they are about creating the very conditions for effectiveness:
• Where identity is acknowledged
• Where belonging is fostered
• Where every individual has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully

This continued dialogue is integral to how we:
• Build stronger teams
• Lead with purpose
• Deliver on our promise of shared value
