Gold Fields’ Salares Norte operation is making a significant contribution to economic growth and employment in Chile’s Atacama Region.

An independent study commissioned by Gold Fields found that Salares Norte contributed an estimated 30–35% of Atacama’s economic growth in the first half of 2026. In 2025, the operation accounted for 46% of the region’s gold production and 22% of Chile’s total gold output, while employing 8% of the approximately 30,000 people working in Atacama’s mining industry.

The findings, recently presented to local authorities and key stakeholders, demonstrate the contribution of our Salares Norte team and our commitment to creating lasting value for the communities and economies where we operate.

⚠️ Safety in mining is about more than preventing physical harm. It is also about protecting psychological health and wellbeing.

This World Mental Health Day, we are recognising the importance of identifying and managing workplace factors that can affect mental health and wellbeing.

Much of the mining industry's safety focus has historically centred on physical risks. Increasingly, companies are also working to strengthen their approach to psychological health and wellbeing as part of workplace safety.

Workers can face challenges including fatigue, isolation, job strain, bullying, and exposure to traumatic events. When these issues are not identified and managed, they can affect wellbeing while also contributing to absenteeism, turnover, workforce instability.

Psychological health and safety must be treated as an integral part of workplace safety, embedded into existing systems, built into leadership accountability, and shaped by the workers who experience these challenges every day.

In Hualgayoc, Peru, our water seeding and harvesting project is already more than 52% complete, helping improve access to water for farming and livestock activities during dry periods.

With 789 micro-reservoirs being developed, the initiative will benefit 4,578 families across 23 communities, strengthening local agriculture and supporting sustainable development.

Building trust starts with open and honest engagement.

Gold Fields Ghana (Tarkwa Mine), recently hosted representatives from six Civil Society Organisations for a two-day visit to learn more about our operations, environmental stewardship, safety standards, and community development efforts.

The delegation toured our mine, rehabilitation projects, and host communities, while engaging directly with our leadership team, community leaders, and stakeholders.

These important conversations help strengthen relationships, promote transparency, and support our commitment to responsible and sustainable mining.

At the recent AWIMSA Symposium, Gold Fields’ South Deep Mine highlighted how technology, digitalisation and skills development are shaping a safer, smarter and more inclusive future for mining.

Leaders from South Deep shared how innovation is creating new opportunities for women to lead, while showcasing the impact of the Siyakha Sonke legacy project, which connects skills development to employment opportunities in mining and related industries.
