a look back at the People’s Race in 2025
The Soweto Marathon delivered its usual mix of noise, colour and community. The route carried runners past Vilakazi Street, the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Walter Sisulu Square. Every turn felt like a reminder of the people and the stories that make up the energy of the area.
Our Bastion Steppers arrived with commitment and Sekedi Mabeba led the charge and kept the team focused. The group supported one another from the first kilometre to the last and kept the Bastion spirit visible throughout the race.
Our runners this year:
Sekedi Mabeba
Candice Holland
Silo Dimba
Hlayiseka Chauke
Joy Mekgwe
Hlobisile Dlamini
Mosuli Sontundu
Hlayisani Mbhiza
Thoriso Mphoka
Humphrey Maluleke
Gugu Mthonti
Sebastian Moiploai
They put in the hours, showed up and finished strong.
The Deputy President joined the 10 km event, which gave the day an unexpected lift and reminded everyone that the race has a way of bringing people together, regardless of who they are or where they come from.
To every Bastion runner who crossed that finish line, thank you. You ran with purpose and carried our culture with you. We look forward to the next challenge.
