HH Industries We strive to aid businesses on their Additive Manufacturing journey, helping them to become Smart, Sustainable, and Future Proof.

HH Industries (Pty) Ltd was established in February 2020 by Devon Hagedorn-Hansen, with the aim of aiding companies on their journey to becoming smart, sustainable, and future proof through assisting with research and development, production and process improvements, and training specifically around Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing). Our main collaborators are SME's and Large Enterprises looking to improve their operations and mitigate future risks through utilising our services. HH Industries leverages its vast network of academic and industry experts to solve pressing technological and scientific challenges for companies with various needs. We help these business leaders make better R&D, product development and corporate development decisions by providing them with research support services.

From HH Industries to the international aerospace stage ✈️

We’re proud to share that HH Industries’ Engineer, Micaela Davids, presented at the 35th Congress of the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS 2026) in Sydney, Australia.

Micaela presented the research paper:
“Laser Scanning Strategies to Investigate Oxidation Effects in Additively Manufactured Tantalum.”

The research was conducted by Micaela Davids, Jacques Strauss, Devon Hagedorn-Hansen, PhD, and Thorsten Becker, representing HH Industries and the Centre for Materials Engineering at the University of Cape Town.

ICAS brings together aeronautics experts and the international scientific aerospace community to share research, technological developments and advances shaping the future of the industry.

As much as we like cake, we don’t sugar coat.

When baking any cake you need a number of ingredients. In our case, our cake is made from the finest ingredients of Black Nylon powder, some defence parts, some drone parts, and some prototyping parts for R&D. Preheated for 2 hours at 160 degrees and then baked for 22 hours in our SLS machine.

No decoration. No exaggeration. Just quality materials, controlled processing, and components produced with purpose, delivering consistent, repeatable results where performance matters.

Layer by layer.

And yes, we can print it in any colour you like… as long as it’s black.

Building Advanced Manufacturing Capability Starts With People, Not Machines

Closing the skills gap in additive and advanced manufacturing requires more than acknowledging the problem, it requires active participation.

At HH Industries, we recognise that the skills shortage across additive manufacturing and advanced manufacturing is real, growing, and already impacting the pace at which industry can adopt and scale new technologies. Rather than viewing this as an external challenge, we believe it is a shared responsibility, and one we are committed to addressing directly.

Our approach is practical and sustained. We have master’s-level students working within our organisation, gaining exposure to real-world engineering environments where theory is applied, challenged, and refined. We regularly deliver training workshops and technical webinars aimed at developing applied understanding, not just surface-level familiarity with advanced manufacturing technologies.
Beyond in-person engagement, we invest in educational support material and technical content available through our website, contributing to accessible learning for engineers, researchers, and students at various stages of their careers. We also actively contribute to academic publications, supporting the development and dissemination of credible, peer-reviewed knowledge within the field.

Importantly, our commitment extends beyond higher education. By hosting school tours at our facility, we aim to spark early curiosity and awareness among younger learners, introducing them to technologies that will shape the future of manufacturing and engineering. Developing interest early is a critical step in building a sustainable talent pipeline.

Building zero-defect, zero-waste digital manufacturing capability for Africa’s EV future.

The Network for Zero-Defect & Zero-Waste Digital Manufacturing for Electric Vehicle Components (NeDMEV), derived from the Education for Laser-based Manufacturing (ELbM) consortium, is focused on upskilling African postgraduate researchers in practical, data-driven manufacturing methods that reduce waste and mitigate climate impact.

This partnership brings together BIUST (Botswana), JKUAT (Kenya), PENTVARS (Ghana), Nelson Mandela University (South Africa), uYilo, HH Industries, CSIR, and the University of Bologna (Italy) to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia and train a critical mass of digital manufacturing engineers.

NeDMEV 2026 Credit-Seeking Mobility Scholarships are now open.
Mobility Period: August 2026 – July 2027
Application Deadline: 15 April 2026
Scholarship Options:
• Masters Mobility (up to 4 months)
• PhD Mobility (up to 6 months)
Eligible fields include Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Production, Materials/Metallurgical and Mechatronics Engineering, and related Digital Manufacturing disciplines.

Scholars will undertake research or coursework at a NeDMEV partner institution while remaining registered at their home university.
Host Institutions:
• Nelson Mandela University (South Africa)
• JKUAT (Kenya)
• BIUST (Botswana)
• PENTVARS (Ghana)

PhD applicants will undergo an online interview as part of the selection process.
