ROAD AMBUSH – SPIKES, ROCKS & FAKE OBSTRUCTIONS
One of the most dangerous tactics used against motorists in South Africa
Criminals place spikes, rocks, burning tyres or debris in the road to force you to stop. Once you stop, they rob, hijack or worse.
What to do if you see something suspicious ahead:
🛡️ Do not stop if it feels wrong
🔄 Slow down early and look for a way to turn around or reverse
👀 Scan both sides of the road for people hiding or waiting
🚗 Keep your doors locked and windows closed
📱 Call for help while still moving if possible
🚫 Never get out of the vehicle to move the obstruction
If you cannot avoid it:
Stay in the car
Keep the engine running
Try to drive around the obstruction if there is a safe gap
Sound the ho**er continuously
Drive to the nearest busy area, police station or safe public place
Important:
Your life is more important than the vehicle or any damage to the tyres.
