*12 September 2023: NOTICE OF PRESCRIBED BURN IN STANFORD TOMORROW*

Overstrand Fire Services will conduct a prescribed fuel reduction burn on Erf 644/25 in Stanford on Wednesday, 13 September 2023.

These 11.4 ha form part of the new housing project next to Stanford Country Fair.

The main objective of the prescribed burn is to reduce fire fuel loads. Controlled burns are the most practical way to reduce dangerous accumulation of combustible fuels. Veld fires that burn in areas where fuels have been reduced by prescribed fires, cause less damage and are much easier to control.

Burn operations are scheduled for the whole day, whereafter mop-up operations will continue as required.

PETITION AGAINST BAIL FOR MURDER ACCUSED LONWABO MTYIBILIZI

During the early hours of Monday May 1st 2023 Yonela Sodam a mother, daughter and sister was bludgeoned to death at her home in Stanford, allegedly by Lonwabo Mtyibilizi a man she trusted and loved. In June 2020 President Cyril Ramaphosa called for the denial of bail of men arrested for ra**ng, abusing or killing women. The President was speaking at the Gender Based Violence dialogue of the ANC and it’s alliance partners. In a country where thousands of women face the daily and constant risk of having their bodies violated and for just being women, we implore the courts to heed the President’s call and to consider the community’s plea and deny Mtyibilizi bail. A young child has been robbed of her mother and a family is without their daughter because of a violent man. The court’s must send a strong and succinct message to all other abusers and rapists, that their bloody and heinous violation of one of society’s most vulnerable, will not be tolerated and will be meted out with the justice it warrants and deserves. The courts must by the very nature of the institution also send a clear & compassionate message to the women of this community and country…. Their lives matter.
