Family owned wine farm in the Kleinrivier Mountains,Africa's southernmost
mountain range🍷. The Raka brand was named after Piet Dreyer's black fishing vessel.

Piet's first love has always been the sea. For some 36 years he braved the storms and challenges of the coast, ever in search of the best catch. It is with this same passion that the Dreyer family now pursue the art of winemaking.

Na 45 jaar waarin sy Remhoogte (Raka) haar tuiste genoem het, het ons matriarg, Elna Dreyer, skielik op die plaas gesterf.
Met swaar harte deel ons hierdie nuus met almal wat sedert 2002 die voorreg gehad het om haar by 'n wynproe, in die proelokaal of iewers langs die pad ontmoet het. Haar liefde vir taal, letterkunde en stories leef voort in ons wyne – Figurehead, Spliced, Quinary en Biography – name en stories wat sy met groot sorg en kennis gekies het.
Wat 'n merkwaardige lewensverhaal laat sy nie agter nie.
Die afgelope paar jaar het ons haar reis met demensie met liefde, waardigheid en beskerming deel van ons familie gehou. Ter nagedagtenis aan haar, en om bewusmaking vir hierdie siekte te ondersteun, sal ons gedurende Julie 15% van alle www.rakashop.co.za verkope aan Demensie SA skenk.

After calling (Remhoogte) Raka home for 45 years, our beloved matriarch, Elna Dreyer, passed away suddenly on the farm.

It is with heavy hearts that we share this news with all those who, since 2002, had the privilege of meeting Elna at a wine tasting, in our tasting room, or somewhere along the Raka journey. Her love of literature, language, and storytelling has been immortalised in the names of our wines – Figurehead, Spliced, Quinary, and Biography.
What an extraordinary life story she leaves behind.

Over the past few years, we chose to walk her journey with dementia privately, surrounded by the love and care of her family. In her memory, and to honour everyone affected by this disease, we will donate 15% of all www.rakashop.co.za sales during July to Dementia South Africa.

The Raka Five Maidens is our milestone wine.

First produced in 2011 to commemorate our winery’s 10th harvest, it was crafted once again in 2018 to celebrate Josef Dreyer 10th harvest and Pieter Dreyer 10th year as viticulturist.

As a family-owned and run winery, we feel incredibly fortunate to create a wine that honours these milestones, achievements, and the passion that continues to drive us forward. 🍷
