Meet Izak Basson, our Viticulturist. Izak, originally from Piketberg, completed his diploma in Agriculture at CPUT in Wellington, and joined Meerlust in 2015 as assistant to the late Roelie Joubert. Izak took over as Viticulturist in 2022, and manages a very dedicated team of ladies and gents in the vineyard, with his assistant Ronald.

What are Izak's thoughts on the coming 2027 harvest? "Its going to be a challenging season, with the dry winter that we've had, and a very early start. The vineyards are getting going almost 2 weeks earlier than usual. It's important to manage our resources well now to ensure a good 2027 harvest"

Cattle farming has been part of the Meerlust story since the 1800s. Nico Myburgh famously kept a herd of Hereford cattle on Meerlust until 1988. Today, a herd of 150 Black Angus/Nguni cross cattle has been introduced as part of the Estate’s regenerative farming practices.
