Two generations. One estate. A shared respect for the land.

At Remhoogte, the story continues through Murray and his sons, Chris as winemaker and viticulturist and Rob as Sales and Marketing Director. Each of them bringing their own perspective, experience, and passion to the estate. What makes it special is not only what has been passed down, but what continues to be learned from one another, and from the site itself.

Vintage after vintage, Remhoogte teaches patience, precision, and trust in what the land gives. And through that, the next chapter is shaped, together as family.

Every estate has a name. Few carry a story quite like Remhoogte.

Derived from the Dutch words “rem”, meaning brake, and “hoogte”, meaning heights, Remhoogte speaks to the steep slopes of Stellenbosch, where early settlers used handbrakes to steady their wagons as they travelled through the Simonsberg mountains.

While vines have long been part of this land, the next chapter began in 1994, when Murray and Juliet Boustred acquired the farm. For Murray, wine had always been more than an interest, it was a passion. In Remhoogte, they saw the opportunity to build something rooted in place, purpose, and estate-grown fruit.

With careful restoration, new vineyard plantings, and the construction of a cellar, the foundation was laid for what Remhoogte is today.

Free To Be started with a simple idea: what if wine didn’t have to follow the expected path!

Born from a desire to explore beyond the boundaries of our estate-grown wines, the range became a space for curiosity, creativity, and a little bit of unconventionality. A place where different varieties, unexpected styles, and bold ideas could come together without needing to fit into a traditional box.

The result? Wines that are vibrant, expressive, and unapologetically individual.

Unfiltered. Uncomplicated. Unapologetically themselves.

That’s how Free To Be began, and exactly how it continues.

🚨 NEW VINTAGE ALERT 🚨

Our Chronicle Estate Blend 2023 vintage, brings together all seven red cultivars grown on Remhoogte, creating a wine layered with character, depth, and a true sense of place. Shaped by soils more than two million years old, this blend captures the remarkable diversity of our property, with all eight soil types reflected in the final wine.

Much like its name, Chronicle speaks to the transition of time — from ancient earth to vineyard, from vintage to bottle, from one shared moment to the next.

Rich, expressive, and beautifully balanced, it’s the kind of red made for shared tables, good food, and conversations that carry long into the evening.

We asked what these images have in common…

The answer? Free To Be Red 2023

Just the red blend your next braai, dinner with friends, or “just one glass” evening has been waiting for.

A fresh, vibrant blend of Syrah, Pinotage and Cinsault, bursting with juicy strawberry and raspberry, lifted by floral notes and a subtle hint of pepper. Easy to love, easy to share, and even easier to pour again.

Get your bottle online via the link in our bio, or visit our tasting room and take home your weekend red.

No rules. Just good wine.

A celebration of South African wine, art, and the stories that shape us.

Hosted by Chris Boustred, winemaker and director of Remhoogte, this special evening paid homage to the art of winemaking and the beauty of creative expression. The featured artist was Juliet Boustred, Chris’ mother, whose paintings speak to her deep love for South Africa, with Remhoogte’s nature, landscapes, and quiet details inspiring some of her most recent work.

As Chris continues his journey in the USA, presenting and sharing Remhoogte wines abroad, this event marked the first of many moments where our wines are shared through a different lens.

Because when the art of winemaking meets the art of creation, and the art of family, something truly special is created and poured.

A quiet glimpse into life on the estate, the kind not many get to see.

Autumn settles in gently, the light softens, and the vineyards begin to shift in colour. There’s a calm that comes with the change of season, slower, quieter, more reflective.

Unscripted and unhurried, this is Remhoogte in transition. This is where the beauty reveals itself in the spaces between.

With winter fast approaching, it’s time to lean into something a little warmer. 🍷

Our Aspect Merlot 2020 is just that, generous layers of juicy red fruit, wrapped in a structure that lingers with a beautiful, comforting warmth. It’s the kind of wine that settles in slowly, perfect for cooler evenings and unhurried moments.

Pour a glass, and let the season begin.

Ever been asked “what exactly is an orange wine?”, and didn’t know how to answer? Well then consider this your introduction…

Firstly, let’s just put you at ease, it’s not made from oranges (we promise).

Its white wine made like a red wine, meaning that the juice ferments on the skins of the grape rather than being separated immediately. This process, known as skin contact, extracts colour, flavour, and tannin, giving the wine its signature amber hue and a heightened textural profile.

When thinking of our Free To Be Orange, think orange peel, subtle cinnamon, dried apricots and orange blossom. This wine is intriguing, textured and made to be appreciated.

So next time someone asks you… you’ll have the answer.
