✈️ Today, on World Pilots' Day, we salute the heart of aviation — our incredible pilots!

Pilots are more than just skilled professionals; they are the guardians of the skies, carrying dreams, saving lives, connecting families, and powering the global economy with every takeoff and landing.

Their precision, leadership, calm under pressure, and relentless pursuit of excellence inspire all of us, every single day. Whether navigating through clear skies or turbulent weather, they embody commitment, resilience, and passion like few others can.

To our pilots — thank you for the countless hours of training, the sacrifices, the unwavering focus, and the deep sense of responsibility you bring to every journey.
You don't just fly aircraft — you move the world.

Today and every day, we are proud to fly with you. 🛫🌍

Happy World Pilots' Day!

I successfully completed another CPL(H) renewal, and I want to express my sincere appreciation to Kevin Patten for the prep check ride and to Ivan Van Rooyen for the competency check ride. This was undoubtedly one of the most intense and enriching check rides I’ve experienced in over 30 years of flying fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.

From the thorough briefing to upper air work, hover work, quick stops, confined landings, bush "bashing", slope landings, out of wind ops, hydraulic failures, loss of tail rotor effectiveness (LTE) emergencies, engine failures (both in-flight and in hover), quick circuits, and more, it was a comprehensive and challenging session. All of this took place in the demanding Highveld environment (FAGC), with hot and high conditions and wind gusts reaching 18 knots.

It was an outstanding learning experience, and I want to thank Ivan for his professionalism, extensive knowledge, vast experience, and exceptional skill. He is not only a highly capable pilot but also an excellent instructor and a true people's person. Our shared passion for aviation and the pursuit of superior airmanship made the experience even more rewarding. I gained invaluable insights during our session, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from such a seasoned aviator.

Fly safe, my fellow flyer.

This is the biggest heatmap we've ever generated! It shows the last three years of flights logged with SkyDemon and kept in our cloud.

There are millions of flights represented in this image, and a cumulative 170 million nautical miles flown. That's more than the distance from Earth to Sun and back again!
