Winter on the Estate brings a quieter rhythm to the vines. The leaves fall and the vineyards rest, while cover crops respond to the autumn rains, carpeting the rows in soft green. Mornings arrive with mist and dew, followed by the occasional sun-drenched afternoon where light filters through the bare oak branches.
In the cellar, the wines rest patiently in barrel, slowly maturing as the new season begins to take shape in the vineyards. Pruning lies ahead, along with preparations for the release of new Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah vintages, and the ongoing work of blending, bottling and labelling.
Like wine itself, life on the Estate moves in cycles - each season giving way to the next in its own time. Winter is a moment of stillness, and perhaps the best time to savour the depth, warmth and generosity of Rust en Vrede’s full-bodied reds.
