[SUSPECT KILLED DURING POLICE OPERATION, HIJACKED VEHICLE RECOVERED IN SOSHANGUVE]

The South African Police Service in Tshwane District has opened a hijacking case and an inquest docket for investigation, following an incident in which a suspected vehicle hijacker was fatally wounded during a police intervention in Soshanguve on Thursday, 04 June 2026.

A 9mm pistol loaded with ammunition was recovered at the scene and it will be subjected to forensic examination to determine whether it may have been used in the commission of other crimes.

The hijacked vehicle was successfully recovered, and no injuries were sustained by any police members during the incident.

Investigations are ongoing to trace and apprehend the second suspect who remains at large.

This madala gugile is alleged to be involved in targeting unsuspecting individuals who have just withdrawn large sums of money before robbing them.

Unfortunately for him, and fortunately for the victim, a photographer at Sam Ntuli Mall managed to capture a picture of him with the victim before the alleged robbery took place. After the incident, the victim returned to the mall and obtained the picture from the photographer.

ILLICIT CI******ES WORTH R23 000 SEIZED IN THABA NCHU 🚨

A joint intelligence-led operation in Thaba Nchu CBD has led to the recovery of illicit ci******es valued at approximately R23 000.

The operation was carried out by a multi-disciplinary team, including members of the South African Police Service and supporting law enforcement partners, as part of ongoing efforts to combat the trade of counterfeit and contraband goods.

⚠️ A 39-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene and is facing charges relating to possession of illicit ci******es and contravention of the Customs and Excise Act.

Authorities say operations targeting illegal trading and economic crimes will continue across the province.
