Entrepreneurship SA - Entrepreneurship in our Lifetime

Entrepreneurship is becoming the most pursued career choice! “One of the main reasons for the premature failure of small businesses in South Africa is that they are started as survivalist ventures. It is almost inevitable for them to fail because their owners do not have the skills, experience or resources to build a sustainable business,” says Mr Govender. The high failure rate of small businesses in South Africa suggests that something is fundamentally wrong. The key to small business success lies in hard work, commitment, dedication, and continuous learning; all of which improves the chances of ensuring a sustainable business enterprise.

The SA Entrepreneurship Magazine (2015) argues that local entrepreneurs' primary focus is on initial success with little attention paid to establishing a solid skillset and foundation of knowledge in the form of a business plan and cash flow management. A summary of the reasons why SA small businesses fail to survive - as cited by both FinWeek (2014) and the SA Entrepreneurship Magazines are: 1. Lack of basic skills and being in it for the wrong reasons; 2. Lack of an adequate market; 3. No or poor business plan; 4. Lack of financial literacy and poor money management; 5. Inability to secure funding.

Entrepreneurs SA exists to promote interest in entrepreneurship and thus growing the competitive edge of local businesses for economic growth. Our goal is to improve the economic welfare of the Small and Micro Enterprises by acting as a crucial catalytic agent for SMEs to gain access to the macro-economic opportunities through exposing them to business opportunities, resources as well as the infrastructure that will fuel their growth, development and productivity that will lead to sustainability.

Entrepreneurs SA is an initiative aimed at aspiring and established entrepreneurs that values growth for themselves and their enterprises through the promotion of access to information, collaboration, networking towards sustainable job creation so as to curb the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality.
