Small Business Law Seminar hosted by the Walter Sisulu University Law Clinic

IYunivesithi Walter Sisulu Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator (CfERI) proudly participated in the Small Business Law Seminar hosted by the Walter Sisulu University Law Clinic in Mthatha on 6 June 2026.

The event held at the Health Resource Centre in Mthatha brought together students, legal practitioners, academics, entrepreneurs, suppliers and community members for a day of practical guidance and powerful conversation about using the law to drive economic transformation.

Minister of Small Business Development Stella Ndabeni delivered the keynote at the Small Business seminar , urging attendees to use the law to promote inclusive growth.

She highlighted that small enterprises are essential to job creation and form the building blocks of sustainable economic development, saying, “Jobs are created by entrepreneurs and small businesses.”

Minister Ndabeni also urged the Mthatha community and Walter Sisulu University to partner with CfERI to turn business ideas into reality. By partnering with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator (CfERI), local entrepreneurs can access tailored mentorship, practical training, market-ready business support and connections to funding partners all designed to accelerate startup growth and create sustainable jobs.

The seminar’s theme, “Building Resilient Small Businesses in Mthatha,” emphasised how legal frameworks can sustain and strengthen enterprises.

Dr Kudzai Mpofu from the Law Clinic led lively sessions showing how sound legal strategies from clear contracts and proper business registration to intellectual property protection and regulatory compliance reduce risk, protect revenue and build credibility with customers and investors.

Participants explored compliance essentials, dispute-avoidance tactics and contract basics . The discussions made clear that legal knowledge is not just about avoiding penalties; it’s a business tool that preserves value, unlocks funding opportunities and supports long-term growth.

CfERI entrepreneurs and students left the seminar energized and better equipped. They gained new legal strategies to protect and grow their businesses, practical tips to attract more customers, and valuable contacts for future collaboration.
