Maintenance and Mechanic at Rietspruit Abattoir
Position Overview:
Rietspruit Abattoir, a leading meat processing company, is currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance and Mechanic to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities and equipment, contributing to the continuous production of high-quality products.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform regular maintenance and repair tasks on machinery, equipment, and facilities to ensure their optimal functioning.
2. Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to identify potential issues and address them proactively.
3. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems, and implement appropriate solutions in a timely manner.
4. Collaborate with production and operations teams to minimize downtime and maintain optimal productivity levels.
5. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, replacements, and maintenance schedules.
6. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while carrying out maintenance tasks.
7. Assist in the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
8. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical failures in a prompt and efficient manner.
9. Keep abreast of industry trends and advancements to provide recommendations on improving machinery and processes.
10. Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, and other external parties to ensure timely delivery of spare parts and services.
Requirements:
1. Proven experience as a Maintenance and Mechanic in a similar industry, preferably in an abattoir or food processing environment.
2. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, as well as troubleshooting techniques.
3. Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and diagrams.
4. Ability to use various tools and equipment, both manual and automated, for maintenance and repair tasks.
5. Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
6. Sound understanding of health and safety regulations and the ability to adhere to them strictly.
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
8. Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and occasional overtime or weekend work.
9. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks and lift heavy objects when required.
10. Relevant certifications or vocational training in mechanical maintenance or a related field is highly advantageous.
