Yesterday morning at approximately 10:05 on the 6th of January 2026, members of GROUND Z3RO were informed about the disappearance of one of our beloved friends. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, we immediately united to develop a strategic search plan to locate our missing friend.
According to the information provided, Muzi was last seen at his girlfriend's residence around 8:00 PM on the evening of 05/01/2025 Subsequently, he contacted his girlfriend mentioning that he was supposed to meet his family at Hannaford Garage in Phoenix to assist in the recovery of a stolen vehicle. However, he did not show up at the meeting point and conveyed that he was heading home. Unfortunately, he did not contact any family, friends, or acquaintances and did not return home as expected.
Efforts were made to contact Muzi via his cellphone; however, every attempt resulted in the call being redirected to voicemail.
GROUND Z3RO members, along with the CPF and CIB of Phoenix, family members, KZN VIP and other security companies, convened at Muzi's home at 17:00 to coordinate and initiate efforts in searching for him.
The initial information indicated that Muzi's vehicle was last traced to Umgababa in the South Coast during the tracking of a wanted vehicle. However, after conducting additional investigations, it was clarified that he had not left the Phoenix area.
The vehicle was flagged by KZN OCC and the only hit on his vehicle was on the 03/01/2026 in the vicinity of Umhlanga Rocks
Members proceeded to Umhlanga Rocks in search of Muzi, but unfortunately, he was not found.
Further information indicated that Muzi's cellphone had been found in Amoutana. Members then exited Umhlanga and headed to Amoutana. Additional assistance was requested from the South African Police Service (SAPS), and information was circulated in the Amouti area.
While the search continued in Amouti, a further request was sent to South Coast members for assistance in the vicinity of Umgababa, just to be on the safe side and leave no stone unturned.
Sgt Ismael from Southbroom SAPS contacted us, and information was circulated in the vicinity of Umgababa and surroundings while the search continued locally.
Another report was received that a vehicle matching Muzi's vehicle was impounded at Kwamashu SAPS.
Members then proceeded to make contact with Kwamashu SAPS for further updates but the information received was that the vehicle and suspects caught were not the same
During this time, all CPF and CIB members were still out searching in known locations and surrounding areas for any positive leads.
CPF members, along with family and friends, also proceeded to search the Cornubia and Mount Edgecombe area, but still did not find any positive results.
Further information was received that he was spotted in Morningside and then proceeded to Durban CBD.
GROUND Z3RO members made contact with members in Morningside for further assistance and then contacted Mohamed from UIPCO for assistance in Durban Central. Information was again circulated with members, and Durban Central SAPS, along with UIPCO and DG Security, proceeded to search throughout the Durban CBD area.
At approximately 22:15, reports were received of a vehicle matching Muzi's vehicle being found in the Bhambiya area. At approximately 22:45, members of GROUND Z3RO, along with SBA PROTECT, KZN VIP, CPF, CIB, and security companies, stood down at a location in Bhambiya with a positive identification of Muzi's vehicle.
SAPS was called out, and the vehicle was impounded and taken to Inanda SAPS for forensic investigation. Further investigation led to two people of interest who were identified as suspects.
Today morning, GROUND Z3RO members, along with all CPF Sectors of Phoenix, KZN VIP and other security companies, proceeded to meet at Muzi's residence again, so teams could go out on searches. GROUND Z3RO members, along with SBA PROTECT, G4U Protection, KZN VIP, CPF, CIB, and all other stakeholders, proceeded to Alingham, where information stated he had been stabbed and thrown into the nearby bushes.
CR Swats also came out to assist with the search.
The K9 Dog unit and Drone Squad were called out to assist with the search as the bush was too dense to cover. A request was made for any clothing to assist the K9 Dog Unit. During the search, a call came in stating that a body had been found in Rydalvale Grounds Unit 9, Phoenix.
Some members proceeded to Rydalvale Grounds while others stayed behind to continue the search and provide updates. It was confirmed that a positive identification was made of Muzi's body being dumped in a stream along the Phoenix highway next to Rydalvale grounds. He had sustained multiple stab wounds which led to his demise.
KZN VIP Emergency medical services assessed the victim and declared him deceased on the scene. The South African Police Services, along with multiple Search and Rescue Teams and Security companies, remain on the scene and are in the process of recovering the body of our friend Muzi. Investigations are ongoing.
Muzi is more than just a loss. He was family to GROUND Z3RO. He was a crime fighter and a CPF member of his area in Phoenix.
It is a sad start to the new year as we didn't just lose a friend but a legend that is mourned by the community. A true selfless hero who always put others first before his own needs. The loss of a well-respected brother to such a brutal killing is a devastating blow not just to his community, but to the Durban region as a whole.
Today we lost a brother who also helped us many times in assisting with missing persons, and he will be truly missed.
To all those that assisted, God bless you and thank you for coming together as one family in search of Muzi.
GROUND Z3RO extends its deepest condolences to Muzi's family and friends.
To us, you were a Legend amongst Heroes. May your soul rest in peace, and until we meet again, brother.
Rest In Peace 🫡
