I don’t post much about prizes and results, despite being incredibly proud, because that’s not the point of what we do. Even though my riders absolutely deserve the recognition.

The joke this year has been that Leo’s colour is now yellow. It’s been a year of thirds, which has been so incredibly worthwhile and special.

Tori, in particular, puts so much work and love into her riding. This year she’s been paired with a horse that requires more effort—not due to any fault or lack of talent from either of them. There is undoubtedly more scope than we are quite ready for.

Lelo is naturally a bit clumsy at times. I’ve known this since the day I met him and from the start of showing. He’s also a big horse to keep together and tends to be on the lazier side. Our gentle giant—often a bit dopey—frequently seen half asleep with a fluffy lip while waiting for his class.

But wow—what a journey it has been to watch them both work hard toward a goal. Scoring 60%+ in novice dressage and improving with each show. Loving him, enjoying the ride, and being proud despite the poles and mistakes. Discovering we had a handicap this whole year that we were unaware of, and still improving despite it.

This photo sums up the pride and hard work—and shows that perfection isn’t required to achieve something meaningful.

The best part came afterwards. For those watching their second-to-last class, they achieved their first blue second-place ribbon in wet, muddy, far-from-ideal conditions.

It was an incredible moment—one that couldn’t have been more deserved.
