I AM A POLICE OFFICIAL
I have became an enemy to many people that some of them I never even met but because of being a police officer I'm their enemy. I'm being hunted and marked for the firearm I carry as poachers hunting a rhino for its horn.
I hear people in taxis, trains and buses talking about police officers as if we are not human but robots. I am not spoken to like human but my respond is suppose to be of human. When I request to be treated as human, the next day I will be on a red carpet where I will be reminded of a Batho Pele principle.
I sometimes ask myself that when they say Batho Pele which means people first, am i not a person enough to deserve that too, if so then what am I? Am I not human anymore by virtue of being a police officer? My career and future is always being discussed by politicians as if it is just a title not performed by humans.
I go into situations where families will stand from a distance with their hands on the head and I will be getting my hands dirty saving the life of their love ones.
You can never understand my situation if you have never been to a scene where a house is burning and you hear a small child screaming for help inside the house and the mother crying for me to safe her child.
You can never understand my situation if you have never been in an accident scene where the husband is stuck in a vehicle that is about to burst into flames and the wife busy crying and begging you not to let her husband die in that car.
You can never understand my situation if you have never been to a scene where your colleague that you just shared a joke with has been murdered by criminals.
You can never understand my situation if you have never been in a situation where you see the blood of the person that you just shared lunch with being washed away on the tar into a drain.
Yes im a police officer but before being a police officer im human. I make the title but the title doesnt make who i am. How do you tell a child that goes to bed with an empty stomach that his/her father died a hero, while to him/her a hero is a father that comes with food every evening.
How do you tell a child that your parent was a hero if the parent died before buying the birthday present that was promised. Being a police officer is not an easy job that many of you think you can do with your eyes closed.
Being a police officer means sacrificing your life for others, stealing your family time to save other families. Depriving your family happiness while providing happiness to other families. Do I need to continue ?
I salute you my follow police officers.
