There’s something about December that invites us to slow down, breathe deeply, and realign with intention. It reminds us that leadership doesn’t have to be rushed or pressured to be powerful.

This month, with all that this year has brought for me, I’m leaning into gentler steps, choosing presence over perfection, and reflection over overwhelm.

As the year winds down, so many of us are busy, and feeling tired. Yet, some of us might find it hard to stop, and just pause. Stillness may feel risky, even unsafe. As the pace slows, discomfort may creep in. To escape it, we fill the silence with more meetings, messages, and endless activity.

Yet complexity doesn’t need speed. It needs clarity.

In complex systems, rushing only multiplies confusion. It is in the pause, that we can see what lies beneath the surface.

So as we rush to finish the year or wind it down, how about remembering that pausing, stillness in the process is key? Going slow is fast in the end. The clearer we are, the more effective we are.
