The frame and everything around it.​

On the monitor, a summer table in the last of the
light. Around it, a garden in the middle of winter,
stands, cables and a stylist's hand still in shot.​

Summer campaigns get made months before summer
arrives. Nobody looking at the final image would ever
know.​

The frame is what everyone sees. Everything around
it is what production takes care of.​

Planning the day.​

Two shots came off the shot list before anyone got near
set.​ Not a compromise, a solve. ​

We looked at the day, found where it ran out of light, and
moved the two setups that were always going to get
squeezed.​

What's left gets the time it needs, and the day holds.​

A problem on paper costs nothing. The same problem at
four in the afternoon costs the whole afternoon.​

The product here was shot in studio, lit properly, on a real set. Everything around it is generated.​ The garment still has to be photographed by someone who knows how to light it and shoot it. That part hasn't moved.​

Campari's red is the brand. Everything else on set is there to protect
it.​

Which is why the second frame has the colour pulled out of
everything except the drink. Hard light, marble, a long shadow, and
one red in the whole picture.​

Two days. Four locations. Children & Cape Town weather​

For GEMO, Scout ran the South African production. Crew, casting,
locations, logistics.​

Four locations in two days is two company moves a day, and the cast
are kids, who give you the hours they give you and not one more.
The schedule gets built around them, not the other way round.​
