Konkola Copper Mines PLC has further extended its appreciation to its employees across its operations by providing top end weatherproofing jackets in recognition of their contribution towards the achievement of the 10,000-tonne copper production milestone.

The gesture is in line with KCMโ€™s continued recognition of the collective effort of employees towards achieving the milestone, reflecting the spirit of one team and one goal, while encouraging employees to continue working towards greater achievements.

The event which was anchored by the theme โ€œRemembering Homeโ€ is centred on the importance of following safety procedures, identifying and addressing hazards as well as reporting unsafe acts and near misses to help ensure everyone returns home safely. Speaking during the opening of the event, KCM Deputy Chief Safety and Sustainability Officer (HSE) Lloyd Moomba, reminded employees of the importance of keeping loved ones in mind when making decisions or undertaking tasks at work.

Speaking during the handover, KCM Acting CEO Malcolm Mewett said the jackets were a small token of appreciation to employees and a way of recognising their collective contribution to the milestone.

Mr Mewett encouraged employees to continue with the team spirit and look for opportunities to improve the way they work. He said KCM was committed to creating opportunities for employee growth and development.

Speaking on behalf of the Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ), Senior Chairperson Ernest Lesa thanked KCM for the gesture, saying it was a meaningful way of appreciating employees and could motivate them to improve their performance.

The total investment for this employee initiative is valued at approximately K5.8m which highlights KCMโ€™s continued commitment to enhancing its reward and recognition programme, whilst encouraging continuous operational improvement and fostering a culture where employees are motivated to contribute to KCMโ€™s continued growth and success.

Konkola Copper Mines PLC has held its 2026 SME Day under the theme โ€œPartnering for Sustainable Growth and Shared Prosperity,โ€.

The day brought together small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), KCM business partners and Government representatives with a goal to strengthen local participation in the mining supply chain.

The event was also attended by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Dr. Hapenga Kabeta, who served as Guest of Honour, alongside Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary, Mr Laurence Mwanza and Chililabombwe District Commissioner, Mr Kelly Jibinga, underscoring the importance Government attaches to initiatives that strengthen local enterprise participation and economic opportunities within mining communities.

The engagement provided local enterprises with a platform to connect directly with KCM and its business partners, understand procurement requirements, showcase their capabilities and identify opportunities to provide goods, services and solutions to the mining industry.

The event opened with a safety share by KCMโ€™s Deputy Chief Safety and Sustainability Officer (HSE), Lloyd Moomba, who focused on KCMโ€™s โ€œRemember Homeโ€ campaign and urged participants to remain alert and make decisions that ensure they return home safely to their families after work.

Speaking at the event, KCM Acting Chief Executive Officer, Malcolm Mewett said the day was important in bringing SMEs and business partners together to identify operational challenges and develop solutions.

Mr. Mewett explained that KCMโ€™s business partner model is a key route through which local businesses can access opportunities, urging SMEs to focus on delivering the right price, right quality and right time.

Mr Mewett also encouraged businesses to look beyond commonly sought opportunities such as scrap and tailings and instead use their technical capabilities to solve genuine challenges within the mining operation.

And the guest of Honour Dr. Kabeta said the SME Day was an important practical platform for translating Governmentโ€™s local-content agenda into economic opportunities for Zambian businesses.

He urged SMEs to build capacity in areas such as quality, safety, certification, technology, governance and timely delivery to take advantage of progressive local-content requirements, which ultimately provide for at least 40 percent participation in applicable core mining goods and services.

Earlier on, KCM Chief Commercial Officer , Prakash Gopukumar, said the business partner model creates an important avenue for SMEs to participate in KCMโ€™s supply chain, noting that business partners must clearly communicate their requirements and create opportunities for capable local suppliers.

Mr Prakash said KCM would continue supporting the development of the local supply ecosystem through engagement, capacity building and initiatives that allow access to procurement opportunities, equipment and financing.

And Chililabombwe SMEs Business Association President, Joel Mwansa, has welcomed the initiative because it gives local businesses an opportunity to market their products and services directly to KCMโ€™s strategic business partners.

He urged SMEs to embrace the opportunities with professionalism by remaining compliant with regulations and consistently providing quality products and services on time and at competitive prices.

The 2026 KCM SME Day reaffirmed KCMโ€™s commitment to strengthening local content by creating practical connections between its growing business needs and capable Zambian enterprises, ensuring that increased mining activity creates wider opportunities within the local economy.

Konkola Copper Mines PLC has pledged ZMW 60,000 in monthly support to the One-Way Mission Childrenโ€™s Home in Chililabombwe, starting this August, reaffirming its commitment to making a meaningful difference in the communities where it operates.

Speaking during a visit to the One-Way Mission Childrenโ€™s Home, KCM Acting CEO Malcolm Mewett said the monthly contribution reflects KCMโ€™s desire to provide practical support that makes a direct difference in the lives of the children.

Mr. Malcolm encouraged the children to remain focused on their education, support one another and continue working towards their goals, while assuring them that KCM cares about them and wants to see them succeed.

Director of the One-Way Mission Childrenโ€™s Home, Loveness Sakala, expressed her appreciation to KCM, saying the contribution would help meet the childrenโ€™s day-to-day needs and bring greater stability to the facility.

The children responded to the visit with songs, dance and prayer, expressing their gratitude for KCMโ€™s support.

This monthly pledge highlights KCMโ€™s commitment to supporting the well-being of its communities and making a positive and tangible difference in the lives of the people it serves.

Konkola Copper Mines PLC has recognized the Konkola Mine A-Team for its outstanding performance at the International Mine Rescue Competition (IMRC) 2026, held in Livingstone, Zambia.

The competition brought together mine rescue teams from across the world to demonstrate their expertise in emergency response, mine rescue, first aid, teamwork and safety through a series of practical simulations and drills.

KCMโ€™s Konkola Mine A-Team secured 3rd position in the First Aid category, showcasing strong preparedness, resilience, teamwork and commitment to safety.

Speaking during the recognition ceremony, KCM Acting Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Mewett congratulated the team on its achievement and expressed pride in the way it represented KCM on the international stage. He commended the team for the dedication, discipline and extensive preparation demonstrated throughout the competition, noting that such competitions provide an opportunity for teams to put their training and experience into practice under pressure.

Mr Mewett further emphasized the importance of leadership, teamwork, physical preparation and continuous practice in building a strong mine rescue capability.

Speaking on the teamโ€™s performance, KCM Safety, Health and Environment Group Manager Elizabeth Mwamba Sakeni commended the team for its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and preparedness. She said the achievement reflected the extensive work invested in training, including physical conditioning, technical drills, first aid and repeated practice, which are essential in preparing rescue teams to respond effectively in demanding situations.

Meanwhile, Konkola Mine Rescue Manager Gabriel Zulu praised the team for its dedication and teamwork, noting that the experience gained at the competition would contribute to the continued development of the team. He said the opportunity to compete alongside rescue teams from different parts of the world provided valuable lessons and exposure that would further strengthen the teamโ€™s skills and readiness.

The achievement reinforces KCMโ€™s commitment to developing highly skilled mine rescue teams and promoting a strong culture of safety, preparedness and continuous learning across its operations.

Konkola Copper Mines PLC has recognized employees and business partners with gift vouchers following the achievement of 10,000 tonnes of copper production in July 2026.

The recognition ceremony celebrated the collective effort and commitment of employees and business partners in delivering the significant production milestone.

Speaking during the event, KCM Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr Malcolm Mewett congratulated employees for their contribution to the achievement, describing the 10,000-tonne milestone as a significant accomplishment for KCM.

Mr Mewett further encouraged employees to maintain a strong focus on safe copper production, stressing that improved production must go hand in hand with safety.

Also speaking at the event, KCM VP Human Capital Management (HCM), Ms. Prudence Chisakuta, said the recognition was an appreciation of the collective effort behind the achievement.

She noted that the recognition extended to both KCM employees and business partner employees, acknowledging the role each played in delivering the significant production performance.

Also in attendance , Miners and Allied Workers Union (MAWU) Chairman, Henry Mwape, welcomed the achievement and called on employees to continue prioritising safety in their day-to-day work.

The recognition underscores KCMโ€™s commitment to appreciating its workforce and business partners while promoting continued safe and sustainable copper production.
