Story time
I once had a friend, church mate and school mate in G7. My friend only had a mother and at some point the mother got married, things were just moving well not until the mother started going out for business she was selling dry fish so she could leave the children with the father even for a month. My friend been a first child aged 15, the step father started coming for her abused her sexually and threatening her not to tell anyone what was happening between him and her, the father could put her in salt water after been used but still she decided to remain quiet and continued to come to school. On unfortunate day my friend started having symptoms of pregnancy and decided to open up to me and we confronted some elderly people about the all issue, guess what? The father was arrested and the mother came to know the all story after the court session and currently my friend is still taking care a child for his step father. Why have I decided to share with you this story? GBV can not just happen by beating someone or a wife violating the husband other way round but it can happen in many ways. Kindly open up for your own safety

As I continue to honor the 16 days of activism against GBV i want to respond to questions that I frequently receive.

1. What gave you the courage to walk away?
- Because of my children firstly. My youngest child was 4 and she was sleeping, my cry woke her up, she froze as she saw her mother being punched. After that every morning she would ask me "mummy how is your eye?" then I heard her ask her 6 year old sister "is it ok for big people to punch eye?" the sister asked what she was talking about then she said "I saw daddy punch mommy on the eye"

And I said to myself "my children will never see their mother being treated like this again". I want to be a good example, that includes walking away from situations and people that are likely to or cause me harm. I want them to see their mother loved right, so that they can choose better life partners.
